Did you guess that my favorite thing this week was going to be Laurie Berkner and her music?
“Fly Me to the Moon” is just one of my favorite Laurie Berkner songs. It appears on the album Rocketship Run. This album has been played over and over again at my house and in the car. We have checked it out from the library so many times that we should probably buy it. My son loves it. When he got really fussy on an eight hour trip to Washington, D.C., my husband would say, “Play JDaniel’s music.” That meant this compact disc or Under the Shady Tree another Laurie Berkner compact disc. He always settled down. It got to the point where we could all sing “Going on a Hunt” or “Rocketship Run”. The songs on the album are contagious. The beat is fun. Her voice is amazing. It is easy to make up movements to go along with the songs. JDaniel and I dance around the playroom to “Let’s Samba” and “Farm Song”.
Rocketship Run is my favorite compact disc so far, but it wasn’t our first experience with Laurie Berkner. JDaniel and I did movement activities and baby yoga to the music in ,Under the Shady Tree,. I asked my husband for it for my birthday. I loved it that much. “Drive my Car”, “I’m Me and You’re You”, and “Do the Dragon” were songs that were easy for me to make up movements that I could do with my son as a infant. We did a lot of baby yoga movement to them. It was a great album to play to wind down before bedtime. Now that he is bigger and walking, he can do some of the movements on his own.
We have checked out her other albums and have enjoyed them too. I just wanted to take a minute and highlight our favorites.
