By the end of the book he has decorated a tree in the park for the other birds and everyone who stops by the park to see.

Ornaments for Birds
He enjoyed filling the oranges up with birdseed after I have attached colored twine to the oranges. At first he keep the oranges in the black tray to keep to birdseed from going everywhere. After I short time, he decided to hold the oranges and do a forwards scoop into them.
The forward scoop idea actually did a great job of keeping the seeds from spilling out. It looked cool too.
After stirring the birdseed and suet together, we molded the mixture into holiday shapes by putting it into cookie cutters. JDaniel used a spatula to push in as much as we could into each cookie cutter.
Once each ornament had been formed, we put it on an oiled foil covered cookie sheet to dry out. A small piece of a straw was pushed into each ornaments to make a place to put a ribbon through later.
I know as food gets scarce the birds will really appreciate those feeders!
Our girls would love making and hanging those!

Those ornaments are AWESOME!!! My son made one a few years ago when we were living in Kansas. It was a lot of fun to see the birds using it in December. lol.
BUT we don’t have any birds left here in Idaho. They all left for the cold winter. We’ll have to do this in the Summer so we can enjoy watching the birds.
Those are just so cool! We don’t have any birds left for the season, so I will need to remember this for the spring when they come back. Definitely very cool.
Really nice idea–unfortunately I live in an apartment–however there are a couple of bushes I could put these on (as long as no one sees me do it!!)

What a fantastic hands on idea! Living rural we have so many different types of birds that my kids would love to make the hanging ornaments.

I have been wanting to do the hollowed out orange bird feeder for awhile, now I’m totally inspired to try it! I’ve also see the cookie cutter feeders on Pinterest but I figured they’d fall apart in real life once the cookie cutter was off…but now I see they look fantastic! Thanks!
