Coloring sorting cards are a great way to work on color recognition. However, it explores more than just color matching. This activity gives your children the opportunity to work on their fine motor skills.
Materials Needed for the Activity
You will need the following tools and materials for this activity:
Color Sorting Cards
While you can print out the color sorting cards on copy paper, they will not be that sturdy. It would probably be better to print them out on cardstock and laminate them. They will last longer and be sturdier.

Children’s training chopsticks are fun to use. Although if you have wooden chopsticks at home, you can place a pom-pom between two chopsticks and secure it with a rubber band.
Large plastic tweezers are easy for children to use. If you have small metal tweezers, you can have your children try them out. They will be a little more challenging.
Tongs are also a great object-moving tool. This set features small hands at the end of the tongs.
Getting the Pages
First, you will need to download the set.
Second, if you don’t have Acrobat Reader you will need to download it. The algorithm page is an Acrobat Reader PDF file.
Third, you must go to your download file and open the page. You may be asked if you want the file to open right after you download it. You won’t have to hunt for it in your download file if you are.
Exploring the Color Sorting Cards
While you could just put the cards, objects, and tongs in a center, it would be great to work with your children one on one to complete the sort. That will allow you to help the master identify the colors. It would also help them practice picking up the objects and moving them. Once they have mastered the colors and moving, they could continue on their own.
