On Sunday as we got in the car to go to my mothers-in-law in Georgia JDaniel must have touched a little of the green pollen that coated my husband’s car. He started rubbing his eyes within minutes of getting in the car. I washed his hands and face with Cetaphil to clean them off. (I carry small bottles on Cetaphil in his diaper bag.) He continued to rub his face and cry, “Eyes hurt.” I sit in the backseat with him when we go on road trips. It was breaking my heart to see him in pain. So, I did what I thought was best. I took him illegally out of his car seat and held him. Yes, he should have stayed in his seat. Did he stop rubbing? Yes, he wrapped his arms around me, put his head on my shoulder, and rubbed only every so often.
He was fine traveling in the car around Augusta. JDaniel started rubbing his neck on the way back home last night. This morning he woke up with a rash on his face and puffy eyes. I gave him a bath and thankfully had lotion left from an allergic reaction to grass last summer along with his daily dose of Claritin. The dermatologist can see him tomorrow. I hope we get a good rain soon. Until we do we will be playing inside.
Are you having trouble with pollen now?
I know we need pollen and butterflies and bees love it. Right now I just want it to go away!

It just makes me sneeze. Poor kid!
Stopping by from SITS.

I can understand. It is not a pleasant feeling when our little ones are in so much discomfort and there’s little we can do about it.
Came over from SITS. Have a great day today despite the pollen. 🙂

Thanks for visiting Sugar Tails and for the thoughts on the Noteworthy Idea.
Yours is the second blog I’ve seen today about pollen — it’s bothering everybody! So frustrating!
My oldest really has trouble with his eyes too. It’s so sad to see them struggle. My pediatrician recommended saline drops to wash them out. When he was little, I’d have him lie down and close his eyes. I’d drop them in the corner and then have him blink. The eye drops were easier that way.
I hope it’s better for him soon!

All 4 of my kidlets, ages 9 all the way down to 11mths have a prescription for claritin and have to take it everyday in order to go outside.
I hope it rains soon for you all.

I hate pollen and on a windy day, forget it! We are allergic to everything and I hate giving her zyrtec everyday but it helps. Thanks for visiting Funwithbella and your comment!

Oh poor pickle. I am sorry he is suffering so much from pollen! I never had problems when I was younger but the older I am getting I am noticing how much I am bothered by it.
It is just now getting bad around here…I just noticed the car was a shade of yellow last night..when it should be gunmetal. Ugh!

Try Bee Well honey from Pickens! Once upon a time, I missed at least one work day a month due to allergies when I lived in Boston. When I first moved here, I could hardly stand it. I thought I was going to have to do allergy shots again. I incorporated the local honey into my diet and I am virtually allergy-free today. A. gets it in his yogurt – no symptoms for him so far. Hope JD feels better soon!

awww poor guy 🙁 My oldest has the worst problem with all of this pollen. he takes 24 hour zyrtec and yet when he got up for school today his eye was so swollen and puffy and red I had to give him a dose of benadryl on top of the zyrtec he takes at night 🙁 . Thankfully his eye went back to normal. I walked him into school and went to talk to the school nurse and his teacher to let them know it is NOT pink eye, only allergies, he knows if it starts acting up to go to a sink and wash his face with cold water. but if they need me to pick him up early I can. I HATE pollen 🙁

Thanks for responding 🙂 My guy used to take claratin. After being on it every spring for about 6 years it just stopped working um year before last. So now he is taking a store brand zyrtec. It does work, but 2 days ago ALL the flowers on the trees opened and that is when his eye puffed up turned red and just got bad. It happens every year I think the pollen overload is just to much for his body even with medicine. Luckily a small dose of benadryl and a splash of cold water do the trick. I just hate giving him more medicine when he has already had the 24 hour stuff. know what I mean? I hope your appointment goes well! and your little guy can get outside soon!!

My youngest gets the worst wheezing and asthma this time of year, I am hoping he will eventually outgrow it!
Hope everyone gets out soon!

Poor little guy! I hope he’s doing better now. The pollen is driving me nuts too, sneezing and runny nose. It’s so early this year.
I didn’t know you are in Augusta. My cousin lives there, well, technically Martinez. But the rest of her family is in Augusta.

My daughter has allergies too, but when she has a reaction with puffy water eyes, there’s nothing like an age/weight appropriate dose of Benadryl to alleviate the symptoms immediately. Meanwhile, Children’s Claritin taken daily builds up in the system.
