We all love to be outside. Our family does a lot of yard work and playing outside. JDaniel can’t get enough of it. We spend time inside during allergy season, but once that passes we are outside a lot.
We all like to put things together. JDaniel has unfortunately inherited my let’s try to put it together without a manual and then get frustrated when it doesn’t work out genes. Maybe he can learn from my husband how to read manuals.
JDaniel has inherited mixed up sleep and awake time genes. He has my husband’s night owl genes along with my early bird genes. I am still hoping the early bird and night owl genes will become recessive. If that happens, he may finally sleep ten hours straight. I have heard it is possible in the teen years for the sleep genes to change.
JDaniel has inherited my auditory learning genes. He talks through what he is learning and needs clarification of by talking about it all the time. It drives my husband crazy. It is like oral processing in stereo. JDaniel has things he is talking about and I have things to share too. Despite the fact I try to filter at least 70% of what I am thinking .There are times he has to seek refuge in the bonus room where JDaniel’s 90% of what he is thinking can be silenced for a few moments. ( JDaniel keeps the 10% of thought s related to trouble he is going to seek to himself)
We are amazed as we watch JDaniel growing older as to how much of who he is comes from his DNA. The same DNA he inherited from us. I laugh at the things that come from my husband and my husband laughs at what comes from me.
JDaniel is his own person, but he has a lot us in him.

I passed my adventerious tastebuds to my son.

Oh that pic of your father in law holding him is so precious! What a beautiful capture.
Yes, Cubbie is a mini-me, stubborn as can be, and Sprout is my husband’s, impatient and particular. It amazing the similarities.

The way see it, if Trinity has any corrective attitude, she took after SO. Only teasing. It is funny, but amazing too – how our personalities will come through our children.
Rachel says
Well, I know I passed along my pale, highly prone to getting a sunburn skin . . . and my hot temper. Oy.
My daughter is adopted but she definitely has my tendency to be dramatic and my love of turning everything into a musical moment.
Organic Motherhood with Cool Whip says
I passed along my overly talkative self to my son Nino. When I get annoyed by how much he talks, I can’t blame him! I know it’s all my fault.
Teresa says
That is so neat to see what genes he gets. I can see many of my mother’s and my father’s characteristics in my son. I also like watching the genetics of my goats–physical and personality traits through the generations.
Jessica Heights says
That is so sweet! So far, the only bit of me in any of my children is my older daughter’s personality…she is a mini me, but looks just like my husband!
NanE says
Isn’t fun watching them grow up and change. Sometimes I look at my girls and think, there is no way they came from the same gene pool! But they both have traits from both my husband and I! Thanks for sharing, Nan
Splendid Little Stars says
Now THAT was interesting!
Let’s see…
daughter–artistic, love of gardening, cooking and food
son–artistic, cooking and food, entrepreneurship

They sure didn’t get my “tidy” gene! LOL! They have picked up a little from both of us which is good. They did both get my sleep in gene which I didn’t think they ever would. 🙂 Your time will come! Once he is in school, sports etc…he will be so tuckered out he will sleep.
Adrienne says
It is so fun to get to know our kiddos watch little parts show up in them! And (though I hope you don’t have to wait this long) you’ll get some serious 10 hour nights of sleep when they’re teens!
Liz says
The auditory learning thing cracks me up because Craig and I are AWFUL about talking through movies about what we are watching.
Lisa @ Two Bears Farm says
Isn’t it fascinating?
Speaking of construction – there’s a Bob the Builder Construction camp here for 3-5 yr olds. Wish JDaniel could go with Pierce – I know he’d love it!

Isn’t it amazing? That you can come together with someone and create these amazing, similar, yet totally unique beings. It’s truly remarkable…now I could just not screw them up too much everything should be fine!

Aww, this is such a great post 🙂 I love how JDaniel has a little bit of you and a little bit of your husband in him. It makes him so much more special 🙂 I know that E loves music just like my husband does and she loves to cook just like me. She’s also a bit high maintenance like me too 🙂
KLZ says
Alex inherited my expressions and all of my terrible sleep habits.
But hey, you’re right, maybe they’ll pass by the teenage years.

It’s so funny how they feel the need to say out loud everything that is going through their little minds. It really can wear you out.
Eventually he will sleep. I promise you!

Fun post. Yes there is a lot in the Genes…
It’s funny here that my daughter seems to have many of her father’s traits and my sons have more of mine :0)
Sue says
Isn’t it interesting to see how all the genes play out?
I think my kids inherited pretty equally from both of us.
=)

Our son was blond and looked very much like me until he was 10 years old, then his hair became dark and darker and he started to look like Mr. G. that’s still the case ! Mr. G. couldn’t deny his fatherhood. But characterwise, my son is like me and that … leads sometimes to some explosions, lol !
Grumpy Grateful Mom says
So sweet! I think I have inherited my children’s genes. Just yesterday my 3-year-old asked to share my ice cream and I wouldn’t share!
Minivan Mama says
I love that you can see your son at 80 because of his grandpa…that is really cool.
My daughter is so much like me, some days I feel like I get to watch myself grow up again.
HOOTIN' ANNI says
Such a sweet endearing post. And I do so love the photos you’ve shared along with your wonderful thoughts.
My son looks like me…in fact when he was a teen [now nearing 40] people thought we were twins, believe it or not. My daughter is the spittin’ image of Bud’s mom [my MIL]
Thanks for stopping by to visit with me yesterday. As always, I enjoyed having your company.

The adventure gene! My son has a great sense of adventure….

My oldest son is a lot more reserved, like me…We get excited on the inside!
My youngest is his biological daddy over. It’s almost uncanny sometimes how much he reminds me of him. And I know for certain it’s in the genes and not learned behavior because he died when he was only 5 months old.
Dana @ Bungalow'56 says
I am always amazed at what is already there. The more I watch my children the more I am amazed by their nature genes vs. nurture.
An interesting post!

My oldest has started looking like me- the baby is a clone of Hubs!
Personality wise, they are a mix of the two of us.
Lola says
Hi again!
Great post! We’re all a mixture of our genes – hopefully the better ones!
Look forward to *seeing* you again next time,

It is nothing short of amazing what you pass down to your children
Jacki says
It is always so much fun to see what your children inherit from you. My son managed to get my independence, stubbornness, and love of fantasy. His obsession and his PO’d face he got from his dad.
EG Wow says
It’s wonderful that you are seeing so much of his personality coming from either you or your husband.
Stephanie Faris says
I think I like it better when that happens…a blend of both parents. Sometimes children are completely like one, without a single thing really coming through from the other person. I always feel like the other person feels a little left out when that happens.
Tired Mom Tésa says
That’s really neat that you wrote out who he got what from. He sounds like a wonderful mix of the two of you. Although, I can’t believe he’s both a night owl and an early bird. That must be exhausting! Hope he grows out of that!
Erin says
I always laugh when the boys are doing something wrong or weird I look at my husband and say “he’s all you”!
Such fun to see how they grow and develop!

I am always amazed when I recognize a new trait that my children share with my hubby or me. Even more amazing is when I see a trait that my children share with one of my parents – it always makes me smile (even if it is infuriating me because they come by it so honestly).
And the sleep thing, I am not sure if it changes when they become teens or if they just decide they want to sleep at any time that is inconvenient for the rest of the family (like 11AM on a Saturday)!
criticalcrass says
my nephew looks exactly like my father. it’s crazy how genetics works, isn’t it?
Galit Breen says
That mix of genes is just pure magic, isn’t it? My kids look just like my husband. Every one of them. But every once in awhile one of their eyes or expressions match mine and it blows me away. Fantastic post topic!
Amanda says
This sounds familiar. I love to think about what my son got from whom. 🙂
My husband’s grandmother used to say “they all come back”.

I’m starting to see some of these traits in my children on both sides of the family. You’re such a great observed to see them so soon in JDaniel. Have a great weekend.

How sweet and magical. I look forward to seeing how my future kids will be a little bit me and a little bit my hubs.

I passed along my love of art, music, and reading. When my oldest son got in trouble in grammar school, his punishment was that he could not read the encyclopedia that night! This is no joke!!

What a perfect picture. This was a neat post.

Sweet post. I’ve always wondered about the nature-nurture balance. Of course children have noticeable qualities of their parents (and I hope my DH looks like HIS father when in his 80s!)… But the interesting thing is that I have two fathers and in many ways I am more like my step father than my biological one!
Personalized Sketches and Sentiments says
Sweet, sweet, sweet photo :o) I LOVE to see families and see how the children either favor their parents and siblings either physically or in temperament. Another reason why I also love to look at old photos of a family (of course our own family photos, but also any other family, too :o)
I am so thankful that our children got my hubby’s (and mom’s) musical talent genes :o) and my hubby’s athletic genes :o)
Blessings & Aloha!
Thank you for stopping by! I am (as is pretty much my mode of operation-catching up on my return “thank you” visits! :o)
