There are so many in need during this Christmas season. I am hoping you will join me in giving to others in your community or beyond this holiday season.
Each week I will feature a way my family is giving to our community during the month of December. I am hoping each of you will take the time to not only give to your community, but to write a blog post about it. If you do, I would love for you to link it up below and include a link to this post or this badge.
My posts will go on Sundays, but feel free to share your giving post any day of the week that works for you. The link up will be available during the rest of the month of December and will appear on every Giving Others Christmas post.
Week One of Giving at Our House- The Mitten Tree
JDaniel’s preschool has a mitten tree set up in the lobby. We took in two pairs of mittens for the tree. At first there weren’t many mittens or gloves, but the tree is slowly getting covered.
In honor of giving mittens JDaniel had a crescent apple pie with icing in his muffin tin this week. He also had ham and cheese sandwiches on picks Two Bears Farm sent us, red grapes and green pickles.
I think the picks kind of look like Christmas tree toppers on the sandwich stacks. JDaniel loved have tiny sandwiches on sticks. His only concern was that one sandwich might not have cheese, but we found it tucked in a fold of ham. Whew!

I truly hope you will join me in giving others Christmas!

What a great tin! I love the idea of giving…we always try and make it a point to give to children charities at Christmas, because every Christmas should have some magic at Christmas.

I have done/participated in various giving activities and programs over the years. This year for starters, I chose two mittens off the tree at my church. I will be making those two gifts and will return them with their respective mittens attached. Then I may choose more mittens…
There are always so many opportunities at Christmas time. I think it’s important to give all year long!

I’m guessing that you’re familiar with the story “The Mitten,” by Jan Brett, but if not… it’s a definite must read! I’ve been wanting to do a book themed meal and had thought about The Mitten… but wasn’t exactly sure what I would do to make muffins, but you’re crescent apple pie has inspired me!

The mitten is cool. It’s a great time of year to think of others less fortunate.

That mitten treee….What a wonderful idea. And I love the mitten too. We did a shoebox for Samaritan’s purse – the kids had fun filling it with stuff. Our outgrown snowsuits, boots, etc goes to the local snowsuit fund too. And I always have my kids pick out something for the food bank on our grocery trips — that is one for the entire year, so they know it is not just at Christmas.

My son has a giving box at school, and he is looking so forward to putting something in it. Both my kids ‘get’ giving to people in the holiday season (and all year long, really). It’s something I really appreciate about them. I think you’ve inspired a post! Thanks! I will linkup once it’s written.
