JDaniel and I recently created an applesauce topping bar on a day we had off from school. We really enjoyed creating this snack for kids idea. I thought this would be a great snack for kids idea for a Valentine’s Day party at school. Valentine’s Day treats tend to be sugary sweet. Why not serve something a healthy with a little dab of sweetness instead as at least one of your snacks for kids?
I am fortunate that JDaniel likes the natural applesauce so, adding topping to it wasn’t adding sugar on top of sugar. Some children won’t like the taste of the natural applesauce and if you decide to try this snack idea you may need to have the “regular” applesauce.
dug around in our pantry and cabinets for odds and ends leftover from baking projects and fancy muffin tin meals. We also scrounged around the refrigerator. Our kitchen was filled with ingredients to use for snacks with kids.JDaniel and I recently created an applesauce topping bar on a day we had off from school. Here is what we found for our snacks for kids applesauce bar:
- Colored Sprinkles
- Cinnamon
- Raisins
- Dried Cranberries
- Raisin Bran like cereal
- Honey Nut Like Cheerios
I really liked all the combinations I tried. JDaniel seemed to really like his too. By selecting topping that we both knew we liked the applesauce topping bar was a success. If he had tried something new that we were not familiar, with it might have turned out differently.

We have never made applesauce or bought it from outside. It is on my to-do list because it doesn’t look so difficult 🙂 Love this idea 🙂

I loved applesauce as a kid. I used to make it from apples from our tree and just like my mom did when I was a kid-We stirred cinnamon red hots into the warm apples and they would turn the applesauce a pretty shade of pink. You can do it in the microwave, too. Anyway thanks for commenting about George. It meant a lot.

This is so much fun. My kids like it when I make anything a “bar”… Taco night, yogurt parfait, cereal, oatmeal, hot cocoa… you name it, we turn it into a topping bar around here

This is such a great idea! It could also work great with yogurt. A toppings bar always makes food more fun (even for adults!) =) #SITSBlogging

Kids really love to come up with their own recipe ideas! I love that they tend to be willing to eat things they have created.
