This set of candy learning challenge cards focuses on sorting candy into groups. Children can use candy they have collected on Halloween or from a bag of candy you give them. Before starting this activity you will want to make sure you have a variety of types of candy to sort.
The challenge cards invite children to sort the candy by one or two attributes. As you look through the candy learning challenge cards, you may find some that will work better with your candy collection than others.

Getting the Candy Learning Challenge Cards
The challenge cards set is a PDF. When you download it, you will need to open it with a PDF reader. Acrobat Reader is a popular reader that you can download to use. You probably have it on your computer already.
Preparing the Candy Learning Challenge Cards
After downloading the set, look through the cards and decide which sorting challenges you want your children to work on. You will want to avoid challenges that will put your children in contact with candies that feature things they are allergic to.
Once you have decided on the challenges, you will need to decide if you want to print the cards out in B/W or color. If you are going to use the cards over and over again, you may decide that you want to print them in color. It would be a great idea to laminate the cards you plan to use over and over again.
Exploring the Challenge Cards
There are many ways to explore the cards. Children can sort them with a partner or a small group. Sharing why they think each piece of candy belongs in each group is important. It is also important to have someone who can check the sort. That is why I would not suggest that children work on sorting cards on their own.
