Patterning s’more feelings is explored in three different ways with this set. Children are invited to find patterns and add to them. Next, they are asked to color the s’mores in a specific pattern. Finally, children are asked to create patterns. While your children could explore each of the patterning pages, there may be one or two that best fit what you need.

Exploring the Patterning Worksheets
Find the Pattern
On the first page you will find a page that displays s’mores in a pattern. Children are asked to figure out the pattern. Then they will need to continue the pattern by placing a circle around the s’more that would come next.
Discovering the Pattern
The second page also invites children to discover the pattern. However this time they are asked to draw the face that will come next. While the faces appear easy to replicate, you could ask them just to try to draw the mouths on the s’mores.
Displaying the Pattern
Next, a page that focuses on creating the patterning displayed before each row of s’mores. There is room to repeat the pattern twice on the line. Some children may benefit from you doing the first pattern in each row with them. Then they can do the second one on their own.
Creating the Pattern
Finally, there is a page that invites children to create their own patterns. While the page displays the s’mores first, you could have children display their patterns and then color the s’mores in that pattern. It is really up to you.
Building Background
Before exploring patterning pages, children will need you to help them identify the feelings displayed on the pages. You could have them listen to a book about feelings. That will help them focus on feeling words and actions that may cause different feelings.
