I Spy Snowman Numbers invites children to search for snowman-shaped numbers. While this is an I Spy activity, it is really more than that. It can be used to introduce children to data-gathering. Children gather, represent, and interpret the information (snowman numbers). Next children will figure out how many of each number is displayed. Finally, they will represent it with tally marks or numerals.
Before starting the activity introduce your children to the words data, gather, and represent mean. It will help them break out each of the steps they will be doing in this activity.

Seven Blind Mice explores how data gathering can go wrong. Six of the mice share only their perspective and think they know what an object is. The seventh mouse gives them the whole picture.

Exploring the Snowman I Spy Activity Pages
- Going over the data-gathering terms before you start will queue children in on all they are doing when they work on this sheet.
- Next, children will need to count how many of each number appears on the page. You may want to have them color or cross out a number as they are counting.
- Then have the children go back to double-check their counting. It is easy to miss a number!
- Once they are sure they have the correct data for each number have them record it.
