Playing in the sand is one of JDaniel’s favorite things. My mom gave him a huge bad filled with toys to take to the beach last summer. He had the best time scooping up sand with his plastic shovel and depositing it into a pail. Minutes of enjoyment turned into hours of fun repeating the process over and over again.

In early January we went to play at a local playground and JDaniel noticed the volleyball pit. “That would be a great place for sand toys!” he declared. I whole heartedly agreed. It really was ideal. The pit was filled with wonderfully soft beach sand and no one would care if we played in it in the dead of winter.

The next time we went to the park we brought his beach toys with us. JDaniel had a blast. We tried to build sand castles but, the sand wasn’t wet enough. Deep hole digging and sand sifting were a success. He loved getting to have the sand slip through his finger. It was a wonderful way to spend a winter morning.
What about summer do you yearn for?

Very fun!!! Sammy is just now starting to love the sand and building castles and all that. My parents live on a lake that has several “beaches” around it. One is a short little walk. Once we get a warmer day we will be heading over there to play in the sand!
My girls could spend HOURS and HOURS playing in the sand as little ones….truth be told, theyy would still do it if given the chance. (they are 15 & 17)
ps. Summer is already here in Florida.
I’m looking forward to the food of summer-strawberries, watermelon, zucchini…..YUM!
Give me warm weather! Can’t wait for it. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to taking our 4 year old back to the beach and dragging our 4 month old to the beach for the first time.
Too funny – my scheduled post for Friday is also about the beach (Assateague). Very creative to use the volleyball court!
So sweet! My kids love playing in sand too, I just have to get my two-year-old to stop throwing it.
I’m anxious for more popsicles this summer, for the kids and for me!
How fun! I too am soo ready for the warmer weather and watching my little one play in the sprinkler. We also have annual passes to a local beach which we really enjoy!
Oh, that’s a fun way to have sand play!
I yearn for the beach!
That looks like such a fun time.
Gotta love those big Costco bags, so useful with kids.
I’m looking forward to the pool!!
He looks like he is having fun. My kids love to play in the sand. They love to build sand castles by the beach. I can’t wait for it to warm up so we can go to the beach and start building sand castles.
WARM WEATHER!!!
Oh sorry, didn’t mean to shout 😉
The sand volleyball court…good idea!
I’m really looking forward to taking our boys to the beach this summer. I don’t work weekends anymore so our family time has been greatly increased! I especially can’t wait to play with my two year old at the beach because he is so expressive and I can’t wait to see how he reacts to it.
I yearn for the pool, the hot days and the warm mornings where I can kick everyone outside.
I’m yearning for warmer weather too, and favorite part about it is the sun, the beach, and the water park!
JDaniel is quite busy with his beach bag!
I am so ready for warm weather, farmers’ markets, vege’s from the garden, the baby animals everywhere….
sigh…
BTW, JDaniel is too cute!
I’m yearning for beach weather too! Isn’t it great when repeating the same task is fun for hours?!
Well, summer is a long, long way away yet where we are, but the beach would be top priority once it does (hopefully) arrive. So true that a child needs nothing more than a bucket and spade and lots and lots of sand.
Of course, the sand all over the house afterwards isn’t quite so appealing, but …. it’s still all worthwhile, isn’t it.
Oh… it snowed in Ohio today … I am yearning for a beach too …. cute tale
I agree with the fruit and fresh veggies from my garden, but the sand, sun and surf are number one. Might just have to go take a sniff off some suntan lotion.
…being in shorts and a t-shirt. It sounds like jdaniel had a wonderful time playing in the sand . what a wonderful memory
I just miss the warmth!! It’s supposed to be Spring, but here in MI it still feels like Winter. 🙁 I can’t wait for summertime- looks like lots of fun playing in the sand!
I am totally yearning for warm temperatures, flip flops and dresses!
Oh my! That bag will keep him busy for HOURS!
Yearning for several things: turning off the heat; fresh veggies & fruit, opening the windows for fresh air…
He looks so cute playing in the sand. Why have a sandbox when you can go to the beach?!
Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by SweetJeanette.com and leaving your comment!
What I yearn for for summer? Hmmmm…. since the summers are pretty brutle in Florida, I’d say air conditioning! LOL I don’t “do” sweat! LOL
It looks like Jdaneil had lots of fun!
I love all the fresh vegetables and fruits of summer. The heat and humidity I could do without..lol
We are yearning for it too. No winter holiday for us this year… so extra yearning is occurring right about now.
Dana
Oh, nothing is better than the beach, that is for sure!! What a fabulous post!
XO
That looks like a lot of fun – what is it about a nice big pile of sand?
I’m yearning for the feel of sun on my head. It’s been over a week since we last saw a sunbeam and I’d like to tilt my face upwards and close my eyes and feel warm!
I just want to be able to sit up at the lake and enjoy a book on my Kindle…I love the “not having to be here or there!”
I recognize your Costco bag! 🙂 I use mine all the time too!
Nice post about yearning. It’s amazing how creative children can be at the beach!
Oh yes I yearn for the beach also. Very soon now…except we are expecting 3 to 6 inches of snow tonight.
Looks like he’s having loads of fun!
I yearn for anything to do with summer – since we could get up to a foot of snow today-tomorrow! Ugh!
Everything about summer! I can’t wait for warm weather and open windows and taking the kids outside. That beach looks gorgeous.
Good for you and JD….finding a place in the winter for summer fun. Just think, he’s already familiar with a volleyball court, and he’s got a head start on the game of volleyball…another fantastic year round sport, but especially fun to play in the sand.
I enjoyed Jenny’s Pause Life Post! Excellent A+ advice. Thanks for sharing!
Warmer weather!
XOXO Lola:)
Absolutely the beach!! I grew up and raised my kids near the beach. Now I am land locked. I miss the sounds of crashing waves and the smells of the sea. I loved going crabbing with a chicken leg and sting. Then having gumbo and crab stew if they were to small. Ooo an over night sleep on the beach with a fire, Yup so many things I could list about how I miss the beach!!
JDaniel looks like he’s having fun! I love to sit outside on the front porch .. or the back deck and enjoy my big trees and flowers. Miss Phoebe loves to be outside, too … cannot wait for warmer weather! Thanks for sharing this neat post. I always love reading about the boy!
For sunshine ! It’s not so evident when you live in Belgium !
Great idea re: the sand pit! I’m most looking forward to playing outside with my baby. He’ll be old enough to enjoy that this year 😉
(Stopping by late from Comment Hour!)
Love the pictures! I just can’t wait for the summer. It’s like almost everything is pleasant to do in the warm weather. Window shopping, eating icecream by a tree, driving through a pretty town, taking strolls in the nieghborhoods looking at peoples gardens.
Great post!!
Wow! After seeing your comment on my blog (thank you), I came to visit yours. 43 comments! I am so impressed!
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit mine….
As for summer, we’re having such crummy weather today, I’d take ANYTHING related to summer right now: even mosquitoes!
The best part of Florida was being able to hit the beach year round while my babes were tots. JDaniel looks like a very happy camper.
Sweet! I’m like JDaniel. I yearn for the beach anytime of the year. And ocean that is warm enough for me to swim in.
I definitely yearn for warmer weather, but summer, I dunno. It tends to get too hot for me. I wish it would stay comfortable like spring brings, but I know that can’t be. Oh bother!
Thanks for sharing some love by visiting my blog today. Have a lovely evening!

I’m totally jealous that you have sand in winter!! you’ve seen the chair right? LOL
For me, this summer is bittersweet. I am so looking forward to the lazy summer day schedule but I know that by summer’s end, my baby will be spreading her wings for college. Thanks for sharing your sweet pics!
I am seriously yearning for the beach!! I even dreamed about it last night!!!!
you make me want to go to beach,
what a cool yearning…
What a smart boy to think of using the volleyball pit as a sand box!
=)
Yes, I could also go for a little sand between my toes…right now, it is just the snow crunching underfoot…
This looks like a great idea! How much fun. I’m bookmarking this for when my little guy gets a bit bigger. He’ll love it. Thanks for the great ideas!
I guess I really like the smells and colors of summer, like freshly cut grass. Oh how I love that.
sticking my toes into warm sand is the ultimate treat of summer … but there are so many other things as well … fresh fruit and veggies, farmers markets, flowers, grass, bbq’s …. i can’t wait!
The beach of course! We took a trip last Sunday to ‘our’ beach in wellies and fleeces but we walked on the rocks searching for crabs and we found some AND a starfish too!!! I cannot wait for it to get a little warmer.
What a great idea for playing in the sand! I am longing for playing in the dirt myself. I’m looking forward to getting into the garden.
JDaniel is so cute 🙂 I just love that he loves to play in the sand, even if it’s not beach sand!
I love everything about summer! The smell of the grass. The fresh fruit. Farmer’s markets. Swimming at the lake. Riding bikes. Hot weather. Camping. I just love it ALL. I can’t wait for summer. Right now I would just settle for weather in the 50’s! 😉
Here from RDC. 🙂
I love Spring because it’s not to hot or humid on the beach but I love the beach no matter what the temperature. I have to admit that I’m like a kid when I am on the beach, can’t say that I play in the sand tho.;)
Love the beach and playing in the sand when younger and now I just try to avoid the sun Stopping by from #commenthour – yes it takes me awhile to get through the postings
I have a second lesson on twitter up http://www.socialmedia-school.com/twitter-social-media-networking-tutorial-begin2/
Great post. I do yearn for summer. And the beach. And the sun. And no rain….
I could keep going ut you get the point.
that is so cool for yall.
i can not wait to see broxton at a beach or sandy area!!!!
I love this.
What a perfect stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday’s letter “Y”.
I always kept a plastic sack full of sand toys in the car when I used to babysit all three Grands. They would spend hours playing in the sand at the playground. Oh, those are wonderful memories.
Thank you.
A+
