For a very long time, JDaniel called himself Me. Everything was about a little boy named Me. A few weeks ago he changed his name to You. It was very confusing at first.
I would say, “ What would you like for lunch?”
He would say, “You cheese, bagel, gapes.”
I would say, “I would eat them. How about you?”
He would say, “You! You!” Then he would point to himself.
I would say, “You would like them for lunch?”
He would say again, “ You! You! (This time frantically pointing to himself.)
I would finally say, “ JDaniel would like cheese, bagel, and gapes.”
Finally, he would say, “Yes!” with an exasperated sigh.
How did I get into this mess? It started with my saying:
Are you ready to go upstairs?
Would you like to go to the park?
Are you the most beautiful toddler in the world?
You did a wonderful job.
You can play with bubbles.
I guess he decided that his name was now You.
At playgroup yesterday I found out that two of the other children in the group have changed their names too. They are also now named You.

Too funny. It is amazing how children learn our complex language. Please give “you” a hug for me!
That’s so funny and CUTE! 🙂
That is adorable!!! I love it! So cute! 🙂
That is funny and adorable!
Stopping by from SITS to say HI! I have made a promise to myself to visit and comment on all blogs posted to spread the love!
It’s gonna get confusing at the playground when all the mommies start calling “you”!
Adorable story =)

Cute! How old is he?
Aww that is just too funny and too cute! 🙂
Makes sense to me. I loved it when my daughter would say “hold you, hold you” but now she knows the difference, :(, and the little one still just says, “uh, uh, uh”.
Thanks for stopping by.
That’s adorable! I’ll have to watch how often I use “you” around my son now, lol
Cute! Reminds me of the joke where the dog thinks his name is “No.” 😉
So cute. I love their little quirks. My little guy (he is almost three) always says things like “Me Angry.” I love it. I remember his older sister saying the same thing along with “Carry You?” when she meant “Carry Me?” I love the early pronoun confusion.
Thanks for stopping by my blog – I love yours!
That is so cute! Thanks for stopping by from SITS! Happy blogging. xxx
Oh boy! We are in the “me” stage. I wonder if he’ll switch over to to the “you.”
…stopping by from SITS…

When my son was young he used to say that it was the letter me instead of the letter u. 🙂
That is so funny! And it makes complete sense! My (much) younger sister used to call me “Me” because I would always say, “Do you want me to pick you up?” lol
Haha! That reminds me of a story I read in a mommy magazine recently. Basically the same premise: the parents would stand with their young son in front of a mirror saying each of their names (mommy, daddy…) and then when they got to their son, they’d say, “that’s you!” Guess what he thought his name was? “That’s you!” HAHA!! Cute cute cute 🙂
That’s funny! Confusing, but very funny.
That’s so cute! We always have had problems with our kids referring to themselves in third person because we did it all the time when talking to them about ourselves. We had to teach ourselves to say, “I’m busy right now.” instead of “Mommy is busy right now.” We never really noticed it until the preschool teacher brought it to our attention!
Thanks for coming by my blog and leaving a comment!
I just love this story! ABSOLUTELY adorable!
How old is your son? My littlest is now 19 months old.
I also see that we follow a lot of the same blogs too so we must have a lot in common!
That is about the cutest thing … I haven’t ever seen a photo of him – he looks to be about a year old than my little guy! Aren’t they so fun at this age, though???
that is adorable… and kinda logical (at least from his perspective!)
Thanks for stopping by. So fun when kids play with pronouns!
Thanks to you and YOU for the smile today. My son Liam has started calling himself buddy…oh well 🙂
awww…
how cute!
Awwww, that is just too cute! 😀
Oh my that is too cute! Thanks for the comment and stopping by my blog!
Wow! That’s actually pretty smart of your little one. It’s hard to argue with the logic since parents always use “you” when talking to our cuties. How did none of my 4 wee ones ever pick up on this? I wonder what I did wrong? LOL!
