A few years ago I shared with you a Five Little Firefighters rhyme and craft. Several of you asked for a printable that you could use with your children that featured the five little firefighters. Tada! This set of community helpers activities for kindergarten features the following:
- Five Little Firefighters rhyme printable
- The requested coloring page
- A partially colored activity page
While this set of printables was designed for kindergartners, you could definitely use them with preschoolers. They would probably love the rhyme and coloring page too.
Getting the Community Helpers Activities for Kindergarten Ready
You will need to download the Five Little Firemen Rhyme and Coloring Printables. The uncolored coloring page was designed to be printed out on a black and white printer. The other two pages will need to be printed out on a colored printer.
You can use the colored version of the five firefighters was visual while you are reciting the poem. You can also use it was a coloring page. Children will probably want to decorate it with markers. They could have trouble coloring with crayons on the hat, coat and pants in on the printable.
Community Helpers Activities for Kindergarten
Using the Uncolored Coloring Page
Your children will have fun coloring the firefighter’s uniform and making it look the uniforms they have seen on their local firefighters.
The facial features were left off so your children can decide what they should be. They will also have fun making each of the firefighters look just like them or some of their friends. They can make all the firefighters look the same or make each one different.
Using the Partially Colored Pages
As I mentioned above, you may want your children to use markers to decorate the firefighters. They may choose to add yellow stripes to the arms or center section of the coat. Children could also add the initials of your local fire department.
Crayons could be used to used place facial features on each of the firefighters and to give them hands.
Using the Rhyme and Coloring Pages Together
You will probably want to go over the rhyme with your children a few times at the beginning of this activity. Then you can have your children point to each firefighter as it comes up in the rhyme.
This will give them the opportunity to work on eye and hand coordination. It will also help them work on ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on.)
