5. Afternoon Tea
6. Super
What did we do to explore The Hobbit?
Well, I looked at a number foods mentioned in The Hobbit along with recipes for them. Pork pie was mentioned as one. I wasn’t sure I could convince JDaniel that he really wanted to try it. Biblo , the main character, was fond of seed-cakes. Again I wasn’t sure how he would feel about them. Buttered scones are a favorite of mine and I found that they were probably served during tea in the Shire where Biblo lived. I am great a buying scones but, I am not great a making them. My scone are a little rock like.
Rather than make a dish from the book I decided to make a bento meal with symbols from the book.

I read the Hobbit 20 years ago, and I loved it! I am hoping to see the movie at some point. I love the little feet in the lunch.
Those Hobbit feet are so cute!
love the feet!
I love the feet!
I loved the Hobbit as a kid. My 5 year old’s been listening to it on cd at bedtime, and then we plan to go see the movie and compare. I can’t wait!
A suggestion: tourtière is pretty close to pork pie, and most kids wolf it down.
Thank you for featuring our hedgehog post. I hope others enjoy it, too!
My oldest daughter snacks like a Hobbit, too! 🙂
The feet are my favorites. So creative! I need to re-read that book!
My SIL is going to this movie this weekend!
I love the Hobbit feet! You are soooo creative!
So creative! I love the feet!! 🙂
We’ve read other books illustrated by Hague, but not this one. His illustrations are very elaborate. The feet sandwiches are super cute and look fun to eat!
Too darn cute!!! Love your crafts!!
Adorable! I love the Hobbit feet 😀

Ooh such wonderful extension ideas!!
I know I always say this, but…seriously, you have the greatest lunch ideas!
I love the little snacks! How cute!
Adorable idea, your Hobbit feet are just so cute!! And I love ‘Elevensees’! Eat it every day – from a book I read called “Let’s Bring Back” – I think it’s a super idea and everyone should have a snack then 🙂
I love your hobbit feet! The whole lunch is adorable great job!
You make being a kid so much fun! And I am going to buy that book, so thanks!!
=)
thank you for hosting! My links are always a little bit older but that can be a good thing right? 🙂 actually – my boys are 7, 8, & 11 so we do a variety of things – the 7 yr old has dyslexia and dysgraphia issues
I love the Hobbit feet snack. That is just too cute!
The Hobbits–great books never fade away completely–they just keep coming back generation after generation
Your Hobbit lunch looks so cute.
I didn’t know there is a Hobbit Picture Book. My husband read Anna The Hobbit, and she sort of liked it but found it rather intense. No movie for her!
I always tease my kids about wanting second breakfast like a hobbit. LOVE the feet!! Adorable!!
I love your lunches. My little boy has second breakfast too!
This is such a cute idea.
I almost want to surprise my Hobbit-loving husband with those Hobbit feet in his lunch next week. 😉
Love those Hobbit feet!
