World Book Week and Read Across America Week are both at the beginning of March. Your children will have a wonderful time coloring the fish on this one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish algorithm page during either of those weeks. Actually, they will probably have fun exploring the page any week of the year. The directions for coloring the fish are on Blockly blocks. Your children will need to follow the directions from the top of the page to the bottom. If they follow each direction, they will end up with two uncolored fish. You can decide if you want them to color them or leave them blank.
Why Not Read a Book About Fish?
Before your children start the algorithm page, you could read them a book about fish. You don’t have to read the Dr. Seuss book with the same title as the algorithm page. There are a lot of fun books about fish. Below you will find some of my favorite fish themed books.

Getting the Algorithm Page
First, you will need to download the Coloring One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Algorithm Page.
Second, if you don’t have Acrobat Reader you will need to download it. The algorithm page is an Acrobat Reader PDF file.
Third, you will need to go to your download file and open the page. You may be asked if you want the file to open right after you download it. If you are, you won’t have to hunt for it in your download file.
Exploring the Algorithm Page
When I explored this algorithm page with my students at school, I walked them through the page. Why?
Children need to know that there are two types of Blockly blocks on the page. The first block I call a command block. It tells children what to do. The block that says Color One of the Fish is one of these. The other type of block is a loop. It tells your children how many times they will need to follow a command. The block that says Repeat 3 times is a loop. The block in the loop is a command block. It tells your children to Color Fish Red. Together they tell children to color three fish red.
