Last year for April Fool’s Day JDaniel and I made brown E’s to serve as a joke. This year we have make “straw”berries for April Fool’s Day. They will be served in a plastic berry container. Neither of these crafts for kids is supposed to make someone feel like a fool. Both of them are thinking jokes filled with lighthearted fun!

Putting the “Straw”berries Together
We cut out a bunch of strawberry shapes out of red construction paper. If you have young children, you may want to create strawberry shaped patterns for your kids to trace on to red construction paper. They can then cut them out.
Then we folder each strawberry shape in half horizontally so we could cut vertical lines into them. At first we tried to cut really straight slits into the strawberries. Then we decided that we could cut more lines if we cut slightly diagonal lines from the berries. We also found that even numbers of slits ended up looking better when used for weaving than the berries with an odd number of slits.
The pink straws were cut into pieces that were about 3 inches in length. You could have your children weave using full length straws and cut them to fit if you like.
Next we wove the straws through the slits. We had bendy straws on hand so we tried to line the bendy sections of the straws up behind paper between the slits.
When the straws were in place, we lifted up each the ends of the straws and glued them in place.
Then we cut the green stems and caps for the strawberries. We cut them out as one piece. You could have your children cut out stems and caps separately or you could cut them out of them.
When the stems and caps had been glued onto the “straw” berries, we were done with our April Fool’s Day craft.
