This weekend I am going to be spending my first night away from JDaniel since he was born to attend the Type A Conference in Asheville. I am really excited about getting away with my husband and meeting other bloggers. Yes, my husband is coming too. He won’t be attending the conference. He will be enjoying so downtime along with so couple time with me.
My sister Michelle and her two sons are coming from Atlanta to be JDaniel. He knows that they are coming. He is so excited about spending time with them. What they will do while they are here has been planned by him already. The children’s museum and McDonald’s are things his cousins will like according to him. He will love time with them no matter what they do. (My sister really wants to go to the zoo. He will love the zoo too.)
JDaniel doesn’t know that Mommy and Daddy are not going to be home for the visit. I have been avoiding telling him. By the time this post is up I will probably have mentioned it to him. When I talk about going away, I don’t think he understands what I am talking about. Mommy doesn’t go away. Daddy has had to visit with Nana several times this year overnight due to his father’s poor health and subsequent passing. Mommy hasn’t done it. Once I month when I go to a sorority meeting my husband puts JDaniel to bed. Bedtime rituals have been totally my job. I love doing the bedtime routine.
There are some of you that may go away for a weekend a few times a year to bond as a couple, attend a retreat, or deal with family things. I think that is wonderful. My sister Michelle has always done that. It is good to get some downtime. I just have never done it before.
I am sure JDaniel will have a great time with Aunt Michelle and his cousins. He may only make a scene when I leave for my benefit. He will be happy to see me come home so that he can tell me what he has done. I know will be true.
How I will fair is a different story. I have really looked forward to learning tons at the conference. My husband and I haven’t really had extended periods of time alone together unless JDaniel was asleep in two and half years. That will be wonderful.
It will be fine. Right?

I have only done it a handful of times and my oldest is 10 – I prefer to vacation with the kids, see the joy…what fun. Now a conference – no thanks I’d rather go by myself!!! Have fun and yes JDaniel will have a GREAT TIME (and he will miss you too, but that is OK!)

I’m sure it will be harder on you than on him. Be sure to enjoy yourself!

I hope you and your husband have a wonderful get away weekend. It’s important for a couple to just be a couple now and then. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. JDaniel will be fine, and though you will miss him I’m betting you will do just fine. LOL
Have a safe trip. ~ Sarah

Sounds like a fun time for you and for your son. I know how hard it can be to be separated for the first time. It gets easier as they get older, I know that doesn’t help now, but I hope you have fun.
Making It Work Mom says
I totally get it. I never am away from my children. This summer I spent two nights (for work) away from my three. My first time away from my 4 year old and it was hard. I enjoyed the “down time” without them (only getting myself dressed, only feeding myself, etc), but I really really missed them. I was so happy to get back to the craziness. So you will be fine and he will be more than fine. But you both will really enjoy each other when you come back!

How interesting to meet other bloggers ! Your little JDaniel has to get used that moms are not always available 24 h a day. It’s also good to have a little time as a couple. When he will be 14 or 15 he also would prefer to go out with friends rather than with mom, lol !
BTW what a nice meme, I didn’t know that, maybe next week I’ll join in.

I wish I was going to Type-A. A friend is and invited me along. We are just too busy right now to afford the time off. You should enjoy yourself! I have yet to really leave my little ones (except for the time I had the youngest) overnight but we are thinking about doing it next month.

I just attended a Bloggers Convention too! The networking was just as valuable as the information sessions. I was on the road traveling by 4 a.m, and home by 8 p.m. I think ebing away from the kids is harder on the Mommy 😉

Have a great time! We rarely had those kinds of trips – but when we did – the initial separation was a stew of emotions – but the return was always joyful and exciting!

It’s good to get away every once in a while, especially with the hubs! It’s very rare that I am away from my kids overnight too. And my husband and I have never both been away from our youngest (who’s also 2) overnight. I’m thinking it’s time he tries spending the night at Grandma’s!

Hi JDaniel’s Mom, I really enjoyed bedtime routine with my kids too . I loved giving them a bath and reading to them and at times I even fell asleep with them . Life is good when you get respite from being a mother from time to time . have fun in Asheville and don’t worry about anything . I also apologize to you if you get a warning message that my site is unsafe . I have no idea what rpcblogrolling is 🙁

It will be great! Yes, you will miss him and sometimes get an odd feeling that your arms are empty, but all of that will be more than compensated for by time to spend with yourself and your husband.
And when you get home, you will be delirious with joy to see him!

You will do just fine. . .but like Sue said, there may be times when you think to yourself. . .what have I forgotten? or where is JDaniel.
But, it is always good to “let down” for a few days

Enjoy your time away! JDaniel will be just fine. You’ll see. He’ll make you proud and you just may be a little disappointed when you find out that he was just way too busy to miss you too terribly. (It’s ALWAYS harder on the mommy!)

This is Genie writing to thank you for stopping by Buttons for Baga and commenting on my A is for Allergy post. Sorry to hear your son has them….hopefully the line that they will go away when he gets older will work for him better than it worked for me!
I can tell you in advance that you are going to love your stay in Asheville. I lived there for 18 years and it is beautiful country. The Blue Ridge Mts. of VA are lovely, but there are none like the Smokeys. Have a great time and learn lots.
Hugs,
Genie

I hope you have a wonderful time! JDaniel, too! Asheville is a great city. My daughter lives there, so I get to visit from time to time. If you love chocolate, make sure to visit the Chocolate Lounge. Fig is a great restaurant, of which there are many in Asheville. Skyline drive is wonderful!

I hope you have a great time w/ your hubs and enjoy the conference also. There have been times I was very torn about being away from my kids for an overnight when we did the first one or two (them at my moms)– but then I saw how excited they would get, feeling like big kids able to be “ok” with out mom and it made me feel better. Enjoy!
