JDaniel hates to see trash in store parking lots. He points to it and declares, “A mess.” I started to pick up the less messy pieces of trash and put it in the trash to show JDaniel that it is important to take care of the environment. If there is a trashcan nearby it hasn’t a problem to pick up the corner of a bag or smashed can and carry it to the trash.
It can be a problem when there is trash all around where I park and/ or it looks really gross. To JDaniel the trash on the ground is the trash that needs to be taken care of. To me, it looks like a nest of germs waiting to spread to the two of us. I don’t want either of us to get sick because we cleaned up other people’s clutter.
There seems to be three solutions to this growing problem. We can avoid the parts of parking lots with trash. We can start to carry a broom and dustpan to clean up the debris. I can carry rubber gloves in the trunk so I don’t have to touch it.

My kids and I bought salad tongs at the dollar store (you know the metal kind that pinch?). Every so often when we aren’t in a hurry we take a shopping bag and fill it full of litter as we walk or when we’re at the park.
It solves the not wanting to contaminate yourselves, but still wanting to help the environment dilemma.
What a fantastic idea….I think Tater would love doing that when we were out and about!
What a responsible and caring boy you have on your hands. Definitely carry some gloves and maybe find a parking spot that isn’t too trashy. Maybe even a sign that reads…”please people, clean up your trash so my son and I don’t have to”. 🙂
I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.
God Bless You ~Ron
How sweet are you to do that! But I see your problem I vote rubber gloves and anti-bacterial gel in the car!
Well, I am glad that he’s doing his part to take care of the earth God gave us! =)
How wonderful! I’d say carry the gloves!
If I know you at all, it will be gloves in the trunk! 🙂
Great idea, love how your son hates the trash!
Wow! He walks around and cleans up messes!?! Can he come over here? I’ll keep him busy – lol.
Way to go raising such a environmentally-conscious child!
Awe he’s a cutie! That’s not something you can teach a kid. He’s going places =)
Also wanted to thank you for submitting a question for my table etiquette post, it’s now up!
HOw cute is he, and what a good mom you are to teach him to take care of our environment. I love it!
