Do your children sleep with zillions of toys in bed? Until last fall JDaniel had never had anything in his bed. I was afraid he would lose his pacie in the night and not be able to find it under toys and blankets.
I brought JDaniel a Build-A- Bear teddy bear back from the Type A Conference last fall. He really loved Teddy and asked if he could have him in his crib at night. That was fine. Two objects in bed weren’t too many.
Over time more and more things seemed to appear in his crib. It was getting really crowded in there. I cleared everything out one afternoon and let JDaniel place six things back in. He chose his Pillow Pet, two blankets, and three stuffed animals.
Months went by and those six items remained in his crib. He didn’t take any away or add to their number.
Right before he turned three at the beginning of March JDaniel moved to a twin bed. We moved all his lovies to the big bed. Every now and then a new toy or blanket or pillow would appear and we would narrow the number back down to six.
Just last week we started hearing JDaniel’s bedroom door open and close along with footsteps in his room after he had been put to bed. The walking around never seemed to go on for long. By the time we got up stairs to check on him, he was in bed again.
In the morning I noticed that some of the animals in his bed had changed and that there were now books in his bed.
I asked him about how they got there and if he was walking around his room at night.
“Yes,” he said.
“Isn’t it dark in here when you are walking around?” I questioned
“Well, I turn on the light so I can see,” he replied.
“Then what happens?” I asked.
“Well, I get what I want, turn off the light and go right to sleep,” he said.
“Why do you open the door?” I inquired.
“I want to make sure you are not looking,” he answered.
We are in such trouble. I can just see him waiting up and trying to go get a midnight snack.
What mischief are or were your children up to at night?
Homeschool on the Croft says
That is sooooo cute…. I just check that you’re not looking!!
Our Wee Guy has loads of stuff in his bed too – teddies and books mainly, though the guns have pride of place now too. Oh what a chore making the bed in the morning!

LOL!! Cute!! Luckily Alex is still in her crib but I know we are going to be in trouble when she can wonder around!!

Too cute! Our boys just started sharing a room and the baby keeps W up at night blowing raspberries at him! Both boys have a pillow and blankets. W owns a couple of stuffed animals but doesn’t pay any attention to them.
Polly @ Helping Little Hands says
My Two-Year-Old sleeps with a TON of books. My husband pulled out over 50 board books one time.
Jessica says
How cute. My little one still sleeps with me so she can’t get into anything YET.
Alexis AKA MOM says
Oh yes the boys are notorious for books and toys. But my oldest is a sneaker of fruit it use to be banana’s now it’s apples!

That is too cute! I love that he’s so honest about needing to be sneaky. Georgia hasn’t figured out yet that she can get out of her bed whenever she wants, but we’re in some major trouble when she does!
Lisa @ Two Bears Farm says
Oh that’s so funny. Making sure you aren’t looking. You ARE in trouble!
Katy says
Awww how cute! Mine is still in a crib, but she has so many things in there. She spends about an hour after she wakes up just sitting up in there reading to her stuffed animals

Lol! Have to love kids honesty. My daughter- well I hate saying it but she is devious. “why don’t you just go at the red light there aren’t any police around?”
Why are you putting stickers under the table?-because I didn’t think you would see me.
Yes I am in trouble

When my eldest son was 5, he was certain that he was from outer space and had magical powers. He made a nest in his closet and slept there at night, because he said it was his space ship and when he closed his eyes, he went into outer space. Fortunately, this phase only lasted for a few months.

As soon as I saw the blog title i knew it was your post!!! Once my daughter hit the twin bed stage, that was it … mountains of toys would find their way into her bed … every stuffed animal she owned would be in there by morning …it was quite the site!

So funny!
When I watch my little grandson, he typically ends up sleeping against his bedroom door so I can’t even get in to check on him! My son has the upper body strength to pick him up and move him while opening the door..he’s such a good Dad….

Hahaha! Aren’t kids wonderful? I love JDaniel’s reasoning for opening the door. :))
Personalized Sketches and Sentiments says
haha!!! Too funny that he “…just wanted to make sure that you were not looking.” hm…if I am up still and my hubby had fallen asleep first, he sometimes gets up for a little something in the fridge… I am such a sound sleeper, that I wouldn’t know if anyone was up rummaging for a snack or any other mischief :o)
Blessings & Aloha!

How cute. My kids are up to way too much mischief. I have two three year olds in the same room and we just switched them to toddler beds. They are up and about every 5 minutes!

You just took me back in time to when the Minions moved from our bed to their own and started deciding on sleeping accessories. Good times!

Cute post … my grandbaby has picnics at night beside her bed … on the floor. She doesn’t get food, just pretends! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, he’s a smart cookie!

Such a precious conversation. I can barely find my little ones for all the lovies in the bed with them. We actually had to put an alarm on my oldest son’s room…he was leaving (as in the house)when he was their age. Thankfully, that has passed!
Mama Hen says
Great post! What a smarty! My daughter likes to get her stuffed animals and books in bed. It is funny how we go from not wanting anything in the bed for safety and then they get bigger and the bed is filled. Have a great night!

JDaniel is such a bright boy with lots of big boy ideas. Love it that he takes books along with his other lovies! I’ve so enjoyed this series of Alphabe-Thursday with you and JDaniel!
CM says
Ha! That’s pretty funny.
All night long, I hear a thud here and a crunch there as my boy’s toys either fall out of bed or get pushed against the wall. Their beds are filled with their treasures.

Such a cute story! You’re going to be in so much trouble when he’s a teenager! My son always had zillions of toys in his bed.

Funny! Emily was a terrible sleeper so I encouraged stuffed animals in her bed. Now she sleeps with one. Brad on the other hand changes almost every night…and has books, his ipod, notebooks…you name it, it’s in there! 🙂 Not a battle I want to fight.

What a cute story! I love when they are young enough to be honest and tell all the details without us having to pry the information out of them. Too sweet!
P.S. My children’s bed are loaded with lovies too!

Ahhhh it’s that special age! My sister used to get out of her crib and wander the house at night. My parents put a chain on our bedroom door to make sure she couldn’t get out. One night I watched to see how she get out of the crib – she’d hoist herself up on her arms and literally pitch herself over the rail. I caught her as she was heading head-first for the floor! Crazy kid…
Christine says
My girls have too many stuffed animals in their beds, but four years ago we had lice and I had to bag them all up, to the basement they stayed for 6 months. It was great, empty beds, easy to make.

Hey, at least he’s ‘fessin’ up. That bodes well!

My 3 year old has more toys in his bed than he has room for! He ended up recently sleeping on the floor because he said there wasn’t enough room for him!!!

It has been too many years since we had a little one sleeping under our roof…he is 35 now and no grands in sight yet! Just wait though until he asks for a flashlight…reading in the dark, under the covers with a flashlight is a rite of passage and one that should never be prevented!! Stock up on batteries!
Ames says
Perhaps it’s time to get one of those cordless door alarms that sound off when his bedroom door is opened. I wouldn’t be so worried about him snacking in the middle of the night but I would be worried about him leaving the house.~Ames

that is the cutest story! What an honest boy! You should be proud of him! {:-Deb
Jenny says
What an absolutely wonderful story. I love his honesty. My kids just always hid under the covers with a flashlight and read. My first husband hated the light on at night and I can admit to reading under the covers myself a few times.
Thanks for the wonderful wrap up to this round of Alphabe-Thursday!
A+

How funny… and very clever of JDaniel. My son used to sleep with 15 stuffed animals. I didn’t realize he had accumulated so many until he developed asthma and we had to get rid of all but ONE. It took a while to work him down to one!
Splendid Little Stars says
Uh-oh! At least he is honest about it!
I slept with zillions of stuffed animals in my bed when I was a child. Yep, there were so many, I’d have to be under some of them.

HA HA
lol, that made me laugh!!!!!
thanks!
he is so funny
Pondside says
That was sweet!
When my daughter was small her bed was always crowded! I’d have to pile everything on the floor to make her bed in the morning, and then when she was old enough to make it herself, there were always suspicious lumps under the bedspread.
EmmaPeel says
You’ve got a smart little fella there – turning the light on and getting the books then making sure you weren’t looking. Kids say the cutest things! I had several things in my sons crib but he wasn’t too interested in any one certain thing. Wish he would of been into books now that I would of loved.
