We live in the land of flip flops here in South Carolina and JDaniel wears socks with his sandals almost every day. Thankfully there are people from all over the world that live in our area. My husband says that if people notice they will just think we are from a European country where socks with sandals are fashion trend in the toddler set. (I am pretty sure that that unspecified country probably would probably frown on wearing socks that have bright red toes and heels. )
If we visited them in their unspecified country, they would probably think we were geeky Americans. I sure they wouldn’t think we were displaying a new American sandal trends. With the advent of the internet people can now see in a split second what the American toddler set is wearing this summer.
Why does he have socks on with his sandals? He has them on to prevent his feet from having contact with grass. JDaniel has topical allergies that can give him an extremely itchy rash on his feet and legs in the spring and summer.
Some people may look at his feet and think we have missed the summer sandal fashion boat. I look at his feet and think they are protected and itch free.

Luckily, he’s at that age where kids wear goofy stuff all the time. The other day Cort came in wearing hand knit winter mittens – on his feet. He wore them all day too, even though it was 98* outside. I figure it gives them character 🙂

I;m amazed that does that trick. I would never have thought of that! At least he still gets to wear sandals. And if you buy him toe socks he could still wear flip flops!

Stopping by from Mama Kat’s. I think he has very fashionable feet. My SIL is european and he wears socks with birkenstocks sometimes, he is really a geek but not for the socks, for the science he does!
I think the sock-sandal look is good on a toddler! What a bummer about the allergy – my friends older brother had that and I remember in the middle of summer he had to wear sweats to cut the lawn. Poor little guy!
At least he looks cute while he breaks the fashion rule, plus we don’t want him to get rashes.
That stinks about his allergies – maybe socks with sandals will become the latest fashion craze!

Luckily he’s a little guy and everybody will just judge his parents instead of him for his fashion faux pas. Kids can get away with so much! 😉
Oh, I love this pic–and he is adorable!! The funny thing is that socks and sandals are totally “in” on college campuses…so I guess he is headed for higher learning!!!

At his age, he can definitely get away with it! Heck, my 3-year-old wore snowboots (with his shorts) yesterday, and no one seemed to bat an eye. They just figure it’s kids being kids. 🙂

I saw your tweet and started to giggle. My French husband tries to wear socks with his sandals, but his brother said that people who wear socks under their sandals are “the dangerous kind.”
I think it looks great! Plus itch free is always a bonus!

i live in florida. where we basically wear sandals year round. (except for our 2 weeks of winter). and well. sometimes, i wear socks with my sandals. and my friends gasp and sigh. but i just happen to love it.

For some reason, socks with sandals have received a bad rap! But I swear I’ve seen so many people wearing them, including teenagers, so maybe a new trend is forming. Or maybe Alaskans are just tacky?

I have 2 kids that wear socks with sandals sometimes. One of them is 2 yo, and one of them *gasp* is 7! I think it is cute, cute on a toddler – not so much on a 7 yo girl. LOL
There is something about the way he is standing in this photo that looks as though he is about to jump or dance. I see that as happy feet. And if he has happy feet, the look can’t be all bad!
