This week we are continue our visits to local ethnic markets. The stop this week was to a Hispanic market right here in town. It was a small store that carried groceries on one side on the store and dresses for First Communion on the other.
JDaniel had a great time exploring and selecting items to try this week.
He selected corn chips with lime, churro mix, peach nectar, and a chicken soup mix with some guidance from me.
I was a little worried he would want to help make the churros so, I made them during naptime. The idea of having him close to boiling oil made me very nervous. He partially woke up during the process. I was glad he slipped back to sleep so I could finish frying the churros and take care of the boiling oil.
He ended up with peach nectar (not pictured), carrots with salsa, chicken soup, lime flavored corn chips, lima beans, and a few churros. I was suprise that he ate the lima beans first. I was not surpised that he headed for the churros second.
JDaniel loved the peach nectar and asked if we could get it again.
What is your favorite Hispanic food?

I looove Mexican food. My daughter like Tex Mex (we had burritos for dinner tonight!), but I can’t wait to develop her tastes in the direction of more authentic Mexican… Oh and I must say I do love churros – we make ours from scratch though (I’ve actually never seen a premix). And I agree – they’re one thing I would NOT let my girl help with.

Its great that you are exposing him to different foods and involving him in the process as much as possible. And it all looks yummy! I know that when R has a role in what we eat he is more likely to happily try new things . He’s recently discovered he loves raw tomatoes and raw peppers. He tried it cheerfully and we had to talk his daddy into trying the raw pepper. Lol. R’s favorite food is beans in every category. Lol. He’d eat beans, of any kind, for every meal.

When I was in the 3rd grade my mom helped me make churros for a Fiesta Day. The oil must have been too hot because churros were exploded everywhere, even splattering on the ceiling. I’m amazed we didn’t get hurt.
I’m glad your experience was more calm. I always love your muffin cup ideas.

Being Puerto Rican my number one choice is Pernil con arroz con gandules ( pork shoulder which has a great marinade..you can look it up on YouTUbe..with rice with pigeon peas) a side of tostones ( fried plantain)and dessert of Flan (homemade not the box type deal..stay away from it!).
Since my hubby is mexican: I am a basic taco lover..picadillo meat and heap on the lettuce , tomatoes and fresh salsa and cilantro…and for dessert sopapillas with honey
Peruvian food: hmmm right now i love this fish fillet i get at Rocoto’s Grill herein San Antonio it is Red snapper fillet lightly breaded and seasoned with Arroz verde (cilantro rice) and their house salad. It’s to die for!
There are tons of others but those have to be my top 3.
