So, we were asked to bring snacks to our community group on Sunday. It meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss the sermon and it is always nice to have a snack for the group members and their kids.
We are going to be at the beach on Sunday and won’t be there, but the host family served everyone dinner last week. I really wanted to do something for them.
I forgot to send them a thank you note. I thought this would be an easy way to show them how much we appreciate them. It won’t take long to bake something and take it to their house early.
It has not been easy.
Why?
I made a chocolate Bundt cake this morning and even though I greased the pan it stuck to it. Really stuck to it. I tried to loosen it with a knife, but it remained in place. The only way to get it out was pry it out in big chocolaty chunks.
Jdaniel wandered into the kitchen and commented on how yummy the kitchen smelled. It did smell wonderful. Chocolate cake can really fill a kitchen with a wonderful scent.
Guess we will have cake crumbles for dessert at our house.
Then I thought I would throw together some brownies. I read the directions carefully and again greased a pan. They were so soft and moist that they kept falling apart when I tried to cut them and put them in a cookie tin. Some made it into the tin. They aren’t in nice pretty squares, but they taste wonderful. I tested them out while Jdaniel was upstairs playing.
Guess the ones that fell apart will be brownie crumbles we can have for dessert.
Finally I took out a package of slice and bake sugar cookies I had purchased for a muffin tin project. These had to come together. We didn’t have any other things to bake in the house.
Whew! They came out of the oven looking and smelling great!
Guess we don’t be having sugar cookies for dessert at our house.
I don’t usually have this much trouble with cakes or cookies. I guess God decided what they really need for snack on Sunday is cookies and we really need to have chocolate crumbles.
I think my guys will thank God!

That is so annoying when the cake sticks to the pan. I should know, as I am the queen of culinary disasters.

yummy… i’ll come to your and help you eat all that chocolaty goodness!
Elizabeth says
That’s a cute story. We all have those days. You can always turn the crumbles of cake and brownies into a trifle. Just put the mixture of the two into a dish, layer with a mixture of cream cheese, powdered sugar and cool whip, layer again with the crumbs and then again with cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cool whip. Finally, you can top it off with hot, melting fudge sauce.

Oh, I have that problem a lot whenever I decide to bake something for other people. We always end up with lots of desserts during those times too 🙂 For some reason, I mess up less often when I’m baking just for my family though….hmmm, maybe I’m subconsciously sabotaging my baking efforts 🙂 Hope your boys enjoy all that chocolatey goodness!
Rach (DonutsMama) says
How funny! At least you persisted with baking. I might have just bought a package of cookies at that point!

I think that is one of the great things about baking even if it looks like a hot mess it still tastes good!

Oh it drives me crazy when they stick to the pan! I have to laugh because I was baking cookies all weekend for a charity bake sale today, and a few batches did NOT cooperate. Sigh. Baking. Next time, I’ll buy ’em 😉 Glad the cookies turned out!

I love the idea of cake crumbles! I had to chuckle at this post since I’ve spent the afternoon in the kitchen baking assorted muffins. Glad the cookies turned out well! ~Hugs, M

Barbara says
This always happens to me when I have to take a dessert somewhere! At least you had those cookies, and I’m a firm believer that it is always that thought that counts! I will be more than willing to take some of those crumbs off your hand!
Hopes@Staying Afloat! says
That is so frustrating! But I bet its nice to have dessert in the house! YUMMY!
melismama says
next time, put the cake crumbles into a bagie and freeze them…..this is what the best cake pops are made of!
~she~ says
I, too, was going to suggest a trifle. Death By Chocolate is crumbled brownies (or cake) layered with chocolate pudding, crushed Heath bar, and Cool Whip.
Here’s another tip: brownies are easier to cut with a disposable plastic knife. I don’t know why, but it’s true!
