Just before we headed out the door I asked him if he wanted to wear a baseball cap. I thought it would keep the sun out of his eyes. No he did not I was informed. He wanted to wear his outdoor bucket hat that has bug repellent in it to the minor league game.
Why wear a bucket hat to a minor league game?
I was told that there are nocturnal mosquitoes. They come out a night and he was going to need protection.
So, off we went to the game. JDaniel acted like a backseat driver the whole way there. He and I had driven past the stadium earlier in the summer. We had been trying to hunt down Waldo for the Where is Waldo? Hunt.
When we got to our seats, JDaniel sat focused on the field clutching his ticket. He just had to hold it between his fingers while he watched the teams throwing the ball back and forth and doing warm up stretches.
Once the game started, he was done watching the players. The ticket was given to me to store in my purse to take home. He took hat came off. All he wanted to do was check out the playground. After that he wanted roll down a grassy hill that is by the playground.
Every once in awhile he would roll to the bottom of the hill. Then he looked over the fence to see what was going on. Then he would trudge back up the hill to begin a roll back down again.

That is a very sweet picture. You never know he might still love baseball. There are only a few good years when you can enjoy rolling down a hill.

We just went to our first baseball game this summer too with the kids. I need to post about it, because the first game was rained out but the kids had a great time splashing in puddles, eating ice cream, etc. They hardly even noticed that it was raining. : )

It sounds like he REALLY enjoyed himself! Not in the game though! I can’t wait for my son to be a little older so we can bring him to games… and see if he will like the game or all the distraction around it!
Mom vs. the boys says
that sounds like us taking our boy to a hockey game, the excitement wore off quick and then he was running around the arena! Love the pic of him clutching his ticket! so cute

At our minor league stadium there’s a bouncy park behind for kids who don’t want to watch the game. It costs $ to do the bouncy houses, and is a pretty popular spot!

lol. this reminds me of the first time i took the girls to a minor league game here – as part of my hubby’s office party. we were on the berm and the girls had no interest in the game – they only enjoyed rolling down the hill! (and watching the visiting team practice.)

So sweet. Our kids have only been to a soccer game. Brad wants to go to a Seattle Seahawks football game someday soon.

Great story! My oldest could never be torn *away* from a game. At 13, it’s still the same 🙂 Love the picture!

I’m pretty sure I would pick rolling down a hill with other kids instead of watching baseball too.

Aaah, great memory! I’m looking forward to taking my son to his first baseball game. Your post just made me anxious but then again I don’t want to see him grow up too fast!
