Back to School Prayer
My son is starting elementary school for the very first time. Many others will start school today too. Some will be in a new class with a new teacher. Others will be starting at a new school just as my son is.
Please help the children feel your peace when they get nervous, worried, or scared. There are so many new things and new people they will encounter this year.
Please help the children find success this year. Some will not excel in the same way others will, but I pray they will all be successful in their own unique ways. Help them to feel and cherish those achievements.
Please help the children find a friend to sit with at lunch and play with on the playground. It can be so lonely surrounded by people you don’t know in a new place.
Please help the children to find an advocate that will cheer for their successes and guide them through their challenges. Help the teachers, office staff members, custodians, and volunteers to seek out children they can be a buddy for.
Please help each teacher to find joy in their jobs. You know they are asked to do a lot on any given day. Their days can be long and very challenging, but their joy of teaching can help children find a joy in learning.
Please help each of the parents that are sending their children to school today to have listening ears that hear what their children want them to know about their days. Their words share the successes, challenges and joys they have encountered.
Please help the children to share with their parents what they need to know to help support and encourage them in their learning.
Thank you for hearing this prayer. You may hear it from me often this year. There will be new challenges and concerns so, this prayer may change. I am just glad you are here to hear it.
Back to School time means change for everyone involved with schools. Even if you don’t have anyone attending school this year I hope you will pray for those that do.

A wonderful and inclusive prayer. I think kindergarten next year will be a blow to us. Right now preschool is only three days a week for four hours. It’s not exactly earth shattering.

Love the first day of school picture. JDaniel looks so grown up. We all have similar worries on the first day, handing over our precious babies to someone else to educate. I hope your prayer will be granted, and JDaniel will have great experience in school!

that is a beautiful prayer…I know it’s scary sending them off and letting othes take care of them. Even when I bring him to daycare, I pray that he will be safe and happy.

Wonderful!
We used to do pretty much the same thing at the beginning of every school year, although my husband would lay his hands on the children’s heads and call it a blessing.
He still does that for them now and again, when they ask.
