There are so many patriotic holidays coming up this summer. I thought it would be a good time to share some crafts for kids that feature the American flag. We have done several here on this blog and a few as guest posts for other blogs.
Before I share some of my previous American flag ideas, let me share one that we just did at our house. We are calling it the Painted American Flag.
We started by painting streaky white stripes onto a red piece of paper with a bristle brush. I confess that I had to look up a picture of American flag online to make sure that we painted the stripes in the right order. I honestly couldn’t remember the order of the red and white stripes.
Then we cut out rectangles blue construction paper for the field of blue. I didn’t need to look up where to put the blue field on our crafts for kids. With the blue field glue onto our painted stripes we were ready to move onto the stars.
Painting stars that look like stars would have been really tricky for both of us. I wanted our stars to look stars. We used a small star cookie cutter as a stencil for our stars. We moved to smaller paint brush to insure that we would be able to get into the tight corners of the cookie cutter.
It would not of have been possible to put all fifty stars on to the blue paper. We ended up with a much smaller number of stars on our flags, but I think you can still easily see that our crafts for kids are American flags.
Here are some other crafts for kids that we have made with an American flag or patriotic color theme:
