One day while riding in the car JDaniel started asking questions about dust bunnies.
JDaniel: Where do the bunnies come from?
Me: Well, they form when dead skin, hair and other things gather close to each other on the floor.
JDaniel: No, how are they born? Do they hatch?
Me: Hatch? Sweet boy, they aren’t birds they don’t hatch.
JDaniel: Do they have moms and dads like I do?
Me: No, they don’t have parents?
JDaniel: Why? I do.
Me: Yes, you do. They aren’t real bunnies. If they were real bunnies, they would have parents.
JDaniel: Mom, they are real. I can see them.
Me: That’s true. I can see them too.
JDaniel: How do they grow?
Me: They move closer to other dust and it sort of attaches to them.
JDaniel: No, what do they eat.
Me: I don’t think they have mouths to eat.
JDaniel: Sure, they do.
Me: I guess there could be dust carrots.
JDaniel: I only like cooked carrots. Do dust bunnies like cooked carrots?
Me: I haven’t really noticed. I guess they would like them cooked.
JDaniel: Can I feed them some of mine?
Me: I don’t think we should feed them or they will start to grow larger and larger.
JDaniel: Are you sure they don’t hatch?
Me: Yes, I am sure they don’t hatch.
Disclaimer: I couldn’t remember the conversation word for word so, I added words that I felt I needed to. Most of it came straight from our conversation.
Too funny. When he gets older, you can have the conversation about how quickly dust bunnies breed.
ha! i wish i knew how to make dust bunnies disappear as easily as they appear!
Oh sweet boy! Love the convo and love the photo that you added! 🙂
I love it! You really brightened up my morning with this cute story 🙂

This is hilarious! Do dust bunnies like cooked carrots? Ha!
Too cute! You did a good job handling his line of questioning. He’s quite the smart little dude 🙂
So cute! The Bunny picture is so coool!
That conversation would make a lovely children’s book! (www.ahgooreview.com)
Hah! Hilarious! Kids and their questions are so funny – glad you wrote this one down – for yourself, *and* for us!
So funny! Are you familiar with the Rhyming Dust Bunnies book by Jan Thomas? It’s a good read!

So funny how he just ran with it and asked all kinds of questions!
That is precious…love the dust carrots 🙂 I need to take care of some of my dust bunnies today. I will try and see if I can attract them with dust carrots! 🙂
Ha, ha! So cute!
I love having conversations like this with my daughter. This morning we were playing a body parts tickle game and she kept saying “don’t tickle my juicy thighs, anything but the juicy thighs!” I guess I better watch how I refer to her body parts 🙂
The dust bunnies are alive and well and my house too! Love the carrots! 🙂
Too cute! Someone must be feeding mine, they keep growing & multiplying 🙂
So hilarious!
Have a great weekend,
XOXO Lola:)
Ha, ha! Hilarious conversation. At my house I think they do hatch!
So cute! Some of those kid conversations are priceless!
That was a very interesting conversation. I remember when my kids were little and somedays I’d be mentally exhuasted from answering all their questions.
So cute…I love the idea of “dust carrots!”
I love these conversations.
By the way – dust bunnies do not, of course, hatch. Like all bunnies they multiply exponentially. They especially like to do this on a sunny day when company is sitting in the living room with a clear, sun-drenched view of the underneath of the bunnies’ favorite piece of furniture.
oh that had me laughing!! The way a child’s mind works ya know?
JDaniel is such a cutie! I couldn’t help smiling at this cute conversation between the two of you 🙂 I love it when they are so innocent at this age. It makes them so much fun to talk to!
Ha! That was cute!
You know, i kinda think they do breed and hatch!
And i’m not real sure, but i think they eat cats too…i haven’t seen mine for a couple of days.
Giggle.
This the sweetest conversation. Great use of the H word. 🙂
How sweet! I love reading about those cute little moments. Don’t you wonder how his mind came around to that conclusion?
What a cute conversation that was!
=)
The priceless words from a mouth of a child!
I love the mind of a child. So real.
I just love seeing a glimpse into the way JD thinks – he’s fun!
Why does this conversation sound so familiar! Oh, now I remember! Now, here’s one for you–My son Jeff, at age 5, after opening and closing the fridge 3 or four times to check the light, asked me, “Mom, when you close your mouth, do your teeth get scared?
You just gotta love kids & the things they come up with… I love going along with it & creating elaborate stories with them:-)
What a delightful post! I loved this.
Thanks for the smile!
I always enjoy visiting you!
A+
HAHA! First off the picture that this started with made me laugh as soon as I saw. But my fave part is when he tells you it’s real- he can see it! Precious!!
Such a precious conversation! Thank you for the smile it brought to my face today!
So cute! I love it. The literalism is adorable.
