I am hoping for Mother’s Day presents that I can use the iPad I won from The Activity Mom. I decided to serve JDaniel several apple related foods in the hopes that when my husband asks him what they should get he will reply they should get something to do with apples. I know this a stretch, but the mind of three year old is a complicated thing. This actuall may work.
JDaniel was served chicken salad with apples, apple slices, crackers, applesauce, mixed veggies and cheese cubes. The mixed veggie and cheese are not apple related. The hope was that he would just eat them. The crackers were to have the chicken salad scooped on to them and eaten together.
Well, the veggies were not touched. The applesauce was swapped out for cottage cheese when JDaniel announced applesauce is no longer a favorite. The chicken salad wasn’t placed on the crackers. It was scooped out by hand.
That leads me to a question. Do your children use forks and spoons when eating?
JDaniel used to and has recently stopped. I am encouraging him to use them, but it has been a challenge.

We struggle w/ utensils as well. I think it’s just easier for them to use hands, so they go the easy route. Pierce daily gets requests to use utensils. And daily he ignores us…

He’s snubbing applesauce now? Well I never!
My daughter was much better about using utensils. My son took forever to finally use them on a regular basis!

You won an iPad??? How cool is that!!!
My boys sometimes use silverware and sometimes don’t.

My kids use utensils, but my son often likes to use his fingers. Maybe to encourage jDaniel you should try getting him a fun new silverware set of his choosing at the store.
Nice tin, bye the way!

My littlest loves to TRY to use utensils. But sometimes I’d rather she just use her fingers, because she makes more of a mess with the utensils!
Hope your scheme works! lol

Congrats on the Ipad! My boys are 9 and 10 and I still have issues with forks and knives. Sigh.

How cool that you won an iPad, congrats!
My children used to use utensils. They each had their own little tiny spoons and forks and each had their own color.

How amazing that you won an iPad!
To me, seeds = spring and spring = awesome.
My girls do. In fact, Maddie starting eating with them at a very early age because big sis always did.

Bean would rather not, but I do make her when it’s messy stuff. Finger foods, as long as she eats them I’m good.

Haha…clever with the apples and all…cute way to serve the kids’ snack too. I will have to remember that!

love the subtle apple hints!
My youngest 1.5yo, holds the fork/spoon and sometimes uses it, sometimes uses her other hand – still holding her fork/spoon. My older two – 5 and 3 are pretty consistent with their cutlery. Thay’re all girls if it matters!!

Congrats on the iPad win. That is so awesome. Love the lunch. My daughter (almost 4) always uses a fork/spoon but my son (2.5) uses his fingers a lot. He’s so skinny, as long as he’s eating, I don’t care how he does it!

You won an iPad? That is so cool. Congratulations. My toddler sometimes uses silverware and sometimes doesn’t. I always provide it for her but I don’t force her to use either them.

If Jax is good, he gets to watch the iPad (Scooby Doo or Curious George). And this is how I get him to do things I want him to, like use utensils.
Love your not-so-subtle apple hints!!!

I like the way this was served. Looks cute.
At 3 they are still busy sorting out tastes. They’ll hate something then like it back again. As long as it’s regularly offered, eventually he’ll acquire a taste for it.

That’s nice, so he learns that you also eat with the eyes !

My girl (4) uses forks and spoons readily, but struggles to use a knife. She is just starting to be interested in cutting her own food up, and at dinner time will usually laboriously cut two or three mouthfuls, and then say “mummy will you please cut this up for me?” Which I’m happy to do, as I think it’s great she makes the initial effort. Some things (like spinach leaves) that are difficult to stab with a fork, she wants to pick up with her fingers. Sometimes we let her, sometimes not (depends how tired she is). At lunch times I generally let her eat with her hands (we often have sandwiches or similar anyway).
Good luck with the Subliminal Apple Messages! :o)

You won an iPad? How fun! I hope you get what you want for Mother’s Day. And that lunch looks so yummy! Chicken salad on crackers…yum!

What a cute lunch idea. Survival buffets are key at our house.
Shaye is 20 months and loves to use utensils. I can’t say the food always makes it to her mouth, but she HATES to be helped.
(I love the way you are working to get your 3 year to suggest the right gift. HIlarious.)

I love the idea of these muffin tin lunches. So creative! And I went through the same thing with my youngest daughter…She ate with her spoon and fork all the time and then one day decided her hands were more fun. She’s still going back and forth with it (she’s 3) but I’m hopeful she’ll start back with the utensils soon.

i really want to go somewhere with marc and broxton… that would be the best…

My son is 4 and doesn’t eat veggies either. I was really suprised but last night he ate broccoli and carrots for the first time. He asked me for the salt shaker, (we use sea salt so not bad for you)and he dumped salt on a piece and put it in his mouth. Ate it like nothing and asked for more broccoli!
My 2 year old daughter doesn’t use a fork or spoon part of the time. I think she might liek the mess she makes though since I am always having to wash the runny stuff off her hands. 😉
