At my house summer reading time has been a part of our daily routine. My son is now a reader! We both take turns reading fun books to each other. Many of the books we have enjoyed have had an animal theme. We both really enjoy getting to see the world through an animal’s eyes.
I have four amazing animal-themed books from Tiger Tale Books that I know you are going to want to add to your library. Each book is beautifully illustrated. Each book features an animal or person that learns how to deal with issues they are having. They really have issues!
[(The Elephantantrum )] [Author: Gillian Shields] [Jul-2012]by Gillian Shields tell the tale of a little girl named Ellie who desperately wants an elephant. Ellie throws huge tantrums until she gets one. Sometimes you get something and you realize it isn’t what you want. Ellie learns this lesson when the elephant throws bigger tantrums than she did. Is he really that upset or is he trying to teach Ellie a lesson?
I Don’t Want to go to Bed!by Julie Sykes is about a little tiger who doesn’t want to go to bed. His mom lets him stay up to see what the night is like. He learns that his friends aren’t up to play at night and it is very dark. Thankfully there is a creature still awake that can guide him home.
It’s Only One!by Tracey Corderoy features a little rhino named Otto who loves the word No! Everyone around him thinks he is cute until they hear him say No! As the story unfolds Otto realizes that saying his favorite word doesn’t always work in his favor. He learns that there is a much better word than he can say. I bet you will love hearing him say it as much as his parents did.
Scowl by Steven Smallman is about an owl with a really bad attitude. He can’t find anything that he doesn’t want to complain about. The animals that live near him try doing things they think might make him smile. They are things that make them smile. He tells them to back off! He has discovered what makes him happy. He just loves being grumpy.
These wonderful books will make you smile and giggle. They will open the door for great conversations about the characters and their attitudes. I just know you are going to want to snuggle up with the children in your life and read them.
