You will notice right away that this set of Valentine’s Day worksheets features snails with hearts on their shells. Each worksheet is a number puzzle that focuses on the number of hearts displayed on each of the snails. Beneath each snail picture is the number shown in words. When your children put the puzzle pieces in the correct order, the snail and their number word will look just right.
The set of Valentine’s Day worksheets focuses on the numbers one through ten. While you could use these Valentine’s Day worksheets with preschoolers, you could also use them with grade school children. Any child that needs to work on number words and counting would benefit from exploring the puzzles in this set.
If your children are just learning the numbers from one to ten, you may want to read them a children’s book that focuses on counting before starting this activity. Below you will find some of my favorite counting books.

Getting Ready to Explore the Valentine’s Day Worksheets
Getting the Worksheets Ready
The first thing you will need to do is to download Valentine’s Day Worksheets- Number Puzzles.
Next, you will need to open up the set with Acrobat Reader.
Then you will need to print out the puzzles. Your children would probably enjoy seeing the snails in color.
Finally, you will need to decide if you want to use the puzzles over and over again or give each child their own puzzles to keep. If you want to use them again and again, you will want to cover them in plastic.
Deciding How to Explore the Puzzles
Working with Uncovered Puzzles
- If you have decided that your children will work with uncovered puzzles, you could have the glue the pieces to a piece of construction paper in order.
- They could also store the pieces in a plastic bag and later take them out to work with them on a table top. Your children will have to be careful with the pieces. If you printed them out on paper, they can tear easily. If you printed them out on tag board, they will last a little bit longer.
Working with Plastic Covered Puzzles
- You can place the plastic covered puzzles in a center or your kitchen table for any of your children to explore.
- You can place the puzzles in a plastic bag for your children to use over and over again. The laminated cover on the puzzle pieces will help them to last. Children can bring the bag with them to work on while you wait at an appointment or for you to finish working with other children.
