We love having deviled eggs around Easter time. I thought your children would have fun matching the numbers and symbols on deviled eggs with the numbers on the various sections of the egg tray. There are several matching sets available in the printable set. The first set is number eggs to match to number chicks. Set number two features tally mark eggs to match to number chicks. The final set features dots that are colored red like the paprika you put on deviled eggs. Each of the sets focuses on working on number recognition.
Getting Ready the Activity Ready to Use
You will need to print out the Number Recognition – Matching the Chicken to the Egg out on a color printer. Each of your children will need an egg tray printable and the egg matching set of your choice.
You will also need a set ofmini wooden clothespins. Your children will use the clothespins to hold the egg in place on top of the number chick that they match.
You may decide you want to glue the egg trays to pieces of cardstock or cardboard to make them more sturdy and easier to work with.
If you plan on only using one of the sets of egg cards, you can make the activity self-checking. You draw the number, dot group or tally marks on the back of the tray underneath each under a number. Your children can then turn the tray over to see with they have made a correct match.
If you choose not to make this activity self-checking, you can have your children show you their matches. You can visually check to see if they have made the correct number recognition matches.
You may want to store the egg tray printable and clothespins in zippered pencil pouch to keep all the pieces together.
This activity was created to explore after reading the bookThe Easter Egg by Jan Brett. Here are some other activities that go along with that book.
