Three Little Pigs Learning Activities

This Three Little Pigs learning activity set features math, fine motor, and building activities for children to explore. If you like these, you will want to check out the other fairy tale-themed set shared last year. There was Gingerbread Man sets, Little Red Hen sets, Goldilocks and the Three Bears sets, and Jack and the Beanstalk sets.

Three Little Pigs Learning Activities

Monday

The Three Little Pigs Game Board can help children work on number recognition and addition facts. Each pig’s face displays a number that will be covered when rolled on the dice.

The fine motor and reading mini book from 3 Dinosaurs will be fun to explore with your children.

The Three Pigs Game Boards invite children to connect numbers and events in the correct order. This set of B/W gameboards and colored boards includes four gameboards and colored boards. Your children can color the B/W pages if they like.

The addition set is a great way for children to visualize addition facts. It is from 3 Dinosaurs.

Wednesday

While this Three Little Pigs Tracing Strip set features a single pig holding a pencil it is still a wonderful part of this series. Each of the strips is available in B/W and color. They are a great way to work on fine motor skills.

3 Dinosaurs has a fun set of skip-counting puzzles for you to explore.

Thursday

Children will have fun building a home for the Three Little Pigs using this set of Three Little Pigs Pattern Block Houses. Once they have explored these, they may want to design a house.

3 Dinosaurs has a shaped-focused activity for you to explore. It focuses on matching shapes.

Friday

Various elements from the Three Little Pigs story are in this set of Three Little Pigs Pattern Strips. Looking over the pictures on the strips, you will find houses, building materials, wolves, and pigs. Children place objects of their choice in the same pattern on the card.

Before you start exploring the Three Little Pigs learning sets, reading one or two versions of the Three Little Pigs would be fun.

This Three Billy Goat Gruff Muffin Tin set explores a number placed on circles featuring characters from the story. Each theme has a paper muffin tin and muffin tin counting circles in B/W and color. The set comes with a themed paper muffin tin and theme circles that can be put in an actual muffin tin.

First, you will need to download it.

Then you will need to open the set with Acrobat Reader.

Next, you decide which coloring page you want your children to work on.

Once you have printed out the gameboards, you gather crayons for your children to color their pages.

How to Use the Three Billy Goats Gruff Muffin Tin Set

Printable vs. Real Muffin Tin

While the set includes printable muffin tins for number matching or counting, you could use actual muffin tins. One of the benefits of using an actual muffin tin is that the objects you use for counting don’t move off the numbers. However, the printable muffin tins were included so you would not have to find muffin tins to use for this activity.

If you decide to use a real muffin tin, you will print out one of the number circle sets to place in the muffin tin. You decide if you want to use the color or B/W version of the set.

Counting Activity

Children will place the correct number of objects into or onto each of the muffin tin numbers displayed.

Number Matching Activity

Children will need to place a numbered circle featuring objects of that number into or onto a muffin cup featuring that number. You can use the colored or B/W version in the muffin cups.

Exploring the characters and objects from the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff on these Three Billy Goats Gruff Patterning Strips will be fun. They are displayed in a variety of patterns. It will be fun for your children to identify each pattern and place everyday objects in the same pattern on each strip.

First, you will need to download the PDF set.

Finally, it will be important to decide which of the pattern strip pages you want to print out.

If you don’t want to print the strips out in color, you could print them out in grayscale or black and white. Some of the details may be harder to see in grayscale or black and white.

How to Explore the Three Billy Goats Gruff Pattern Strips

Sometimes children don’t notice a pattern right away. It would be helpful to discuss the pattern that appears on each strip first. Once your children have gone over the patterns on each card you want them to work on, they can work independently.

Some children may not need to have the patterns explained to them. They may be able to identify the patterns and replicate them on their own. It will still be important to check on their work. Reassuring them they have done it well or need to double-check their work is important. If you can’t be with them when they work on the strips, maybe they could work with a partner.

Exploring the Shapes Mats

There are several ways to explore the set of mats.

They can be used in a center or with a whole group.
Next, they can be used for free exploration lessons or non-standard measurement activities.

This Three Billy Goats Gruff number counting set features events from the traditional version of the book. Children are invited to use arrows to connect the events in order. The set could also be used to introduce algorithms. After all an algorithm is a series of steps.

Each of the pages in the set is available in B/W and color. If you plan to use the pages as a worksheet, you will want to print them out in B/W. However, if you plan on using them as game boards over and over again printing them in color would make sense.

How to Use the Three Billy Goats Gruff Themed Number Counting Gameboards

While there are many ways that you can use the gameboards, let me walk you through how I would use them with my students.

Begin by reading a traditional version of Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Give each of your children the version of the gameboard you want them to work on along with a pencil.
Before starting the sequencing activity, you can have your children color the objects on the page if you like.
Have the children connect the box containing the word Start and to the first event mentioned in the book with an arrow.
Continue connecting the events and numbers in order.
After box ten is reached, draw an arrow from box ten with the word End.

Getting the Gameboards Ready

If you plan on using the cards again, you may want to laminate them. Below I have suggested products that you may want to use to cover them.

This set of Three Billy Goats Gruff number counting game boards is available in color and B/W. Children will roll a die or set of dice. Then they will cover the number that is on the die or that is the sum of the two dice. It is a great way to work on number recognition, addition and subtraction facts.

Third, go to your download file and open the set.

Reusable or One Time Use

The pages can be laminated so that they can be reused. If you want to use them like a worksheet, print them out and give them to your children.

Uncovered Roll and Cover Mats

The numbers on the uncovered mats can be covered with counters or X’s made with pencils. One way is permanent and the other option allows children to play with mats cover and cover again. You can use dot markers could also be used on the uncovered mats.

Covered or Laminated Roll and Cover Mats

Covered mats will also work with counters. If you don’t have or want to use it, the numbers could be marked with dry-erase markers. Your children can wipe off their marks with a dry-erase or wet cloth.
