Two weeks ago we went to spend the weekend with my mother-in-law in her new apartment. JDaniel was thrilled. He fell in love with the idea of apartment living when we first toured her apartment before she moved in.
Now that she is living in the “Big House” (The apartments in her senior living community are in a place they call the “Big House”.) she eats one meal a day in the community’s dining room. It is a great place for her to meet friends and spend time around other people for a wonderful meal. She knows almost everyone there. We went with her to dinner during our visit. There were people stopping by to chat with her every few minutes.
Were they stopping to ask how she was doing? No, they were stopping to check out her youngest grandson JDaniel. They admired his hearty appetite. They commented on how well he was behaving. They wanted to clutch his angel-like curls. Lady after lady stroked his curls or squished a handful of them in their palms. “What amazing curls!” they each would say. Did JDaniel notice all this attention to his hair? No way! He was more interested in whether his Nana had more fried okra on her plate and whether mom had any salmon croquettes left on hers. He didn’t even seem to notice he was being fawned over.
Some day he will love the attention of the right lady. She may even be a little older than he is.

His curls are really gorgeous – the kind that I wish Georgia had. Hopefully one day he’ll appreciate them, but for now it’s sweet that he doesn’t even notice.

My TJ had curls like that in red! I cried when we had them cut because people were calling him a girl 🙁

My son Jake had a elder lady tell him once that he had beautiful hair. . .of course he was about 10 at the time and he really needed a haircut! So when he really needs a haircut, I tell him an old lady is going to tell him he has beautiful hair again!

Silk hair attracts everyone especially the little old ladies, even myself. You have such a cute little angel. Cut a little wisp and keep it for later. You wont regret it. Thanks for sharing.

Oh those elderly people just LOVE little ones! My mom is in a nursing home and when I take my 3 year old nephew, they are all over him!
There will be a time when he HATES anyone playing with his curls!! My youngest is a teenager and keeps the hair cut short so it won’t curl!!! I miss the curls!

It is amazing what a “draw” the elderly and young have to each other. It is a very special relationship. Max loves the “Frau” (German = woman) who lives across the road. She is an elderly lady that we bring our homeback cookies or cakes too 🙂
Thanks for stopping by over my way. I love your visits and comments. You are always so kind 🙂

I’d probably want to touch those adorable curls too if I was there 🙂 I think it’s so cute that he was too interested in the food and wasn’t bothered by all the hair-touching and attention he was getting from the other ladies.

Aren’t those wonderful moments? And little ones bring such joy to nursing homes.
When my sister was still alive, I would take the Grands to visit several times a week and it was such a wonderful moment for so many of the residents!
I’m glad you got to see this!
