My Book Tie-Ins of the Week:
Christmas Tree Memories by Aliki is a book that highlights the memories a family has about many of the ornaments on their tree. They remember when they made some of them and they remember the people that have given them others. I was amazed at the variety of types of ornaments they made. Someday I would love to make each one with JDaniel.
What did we do with it?
Homemade Ornaments

I didn’t even know a book like that existed! I need to track that down 🙂 We haven’t done salt dough ornaments – might be a good thing to do since it’s day 2 of being snowed in!

I have just been thinking about doing more book activities with my son in the new year, and this link up is great! I’m so glad I found it. 🙂 I’m looking forward to getting great ideas here, as well as linking up our posts when we begin this type of activity. 🙂

I’m going to look for that book. And we have so much fun with cutout cookies, I’m sure this would go over well, too. Thanks for sharing!

I remember making those when the kids were little…in fact I think I have 2 on the tree this year.

Whe I moved out of my parents’ house, I started making at least one ornament each Christmas. The first year I made salt-dough and used it to make tiny hearts (painted red) that stuck on painted-green toothpicks, and had those all sticking out in a bouquet from a mini gift bag. I wrote the year on one of the hearts, and did a clear coat spray on them. My boyfriend at the time said he thought it was stupid, and it turns out, he thought they were supposed to be edible, and had tried to eat one!
Later years I glued buttons all over a satin-thread-covered foam ball ornament, silk flowers onto a red glass ball, a particularly ugly set of clip-on earrings (with the clips removed) onto another satin/foam ball, double-sided tape and microbeads in a ribbon present pattern on a clear glass cube ornament, and a failed attempt to paint the inside of a clear glass ball (apparently the secret is to wash inside with rubbing alcohol first, and let dry!) After that I gave up!

I remember doing this when I was younger. I also remember trying to eat it, and it really is very salty!

Aw cool! He’ll definitely remember this as great fun. I remember doing the same thing with my mom.

Love this! Books and craft time were always my favorite time when my girls were little. Thanks for linking it up to the Holiday Hop of Goodies.
