My Book Tie-Ins of the Week:
We read the Thanksgiving version of this book and loved it. What is Easter? is the Easter version. It covers all things that Easter isn’t and then explains what Easter is really about. I wish that it would cover what it is first, but I still really enjoyed sharing this book with JDaniel. The traditions in what it isn’t part were fun to talk about and share.
I really liked The Easter Story. It explains Easter is an easy to understand way. It skips the crucifixion and some of the other scary events leading up to Christ’s death for which I am grateful. JDaniel would have been very upset about them. While he will hear about them when he gets older, I am glad he didn’t have to see or hear about them in this book. The Easter Story does cover events leading up to and following Christ’s death that JDaniel could understand and learn from.
What did we do?
Tissue Box Art
I couldn’t co-host a Tissue Box Challenge without creating something with a tissue box this week. I cut out the pieces and JDaniel helped with the gluing of the bunny below.
Jelly Bean Egg Rocks
I found a wonderful little book on 1+1+1=1 called The Jelly Bean Prayer. It describes a specific color on each page and how it symbolizes something God has created or done. Yellow is for the sun, black is for our sin, and red is for Christ’s blood and so on. We explored rocks I decorated to represent the jelly beans in the book.
What have you been doing with your children to get ready for Easter?

We’ve read What is Easter and it works, but I’m not in love with it – like what you described about the Easter Story and it’s appropriateness for younger kids – I’ll have to look for it. The jellybean activity looks fun – maybe we’ll try it tomorrow!

The book sounds great – I may have to get a copy! It is very tricky to keep things real and not scary!!!

Can’t wait for the Tissue Box challenge judging!! Will look at them all over the Easter Weekend?

I ahve been using those 2 books since the girls were very young. It’s perfect for lil ones bc they are not scary and do describe the real meaning behind Easter. Now that the girls are getting a little older I am looking for something with a bit more detail but that they will not find too shocking. It hasn’t been easy.
I loved the tissue box idea to go with the jellybean prayer! 🙂

Ben came over this eveing with his Mom. We colored eggs.. His fingers are all blue.. He had such a great time with the eggs.
I love reading books to Ben. He has a rabbit (NIbbles) that he takes everywhere with him. HE asked me if Nibbles was going to help the Easter Bunny…I told him not this year, he needed to be next to him sleeping. I love 4 year olds.. they are so fun..
Thanks for the crafty tissue box.. Cool idea.. You are such a clever rabbit~!
Have a Tiggeriffic Easter…ta ta for now from Iowa:)

That bunny tissue box is a great idea! Kate had a hunt at preschool on Thursday, and we’re going to a hunt today. Then tomorrow we’re going to do our own hunt in our backyard. Of course, we dyed eggs, too. 🙂 Happy Easter!

I adore the tie-ins with the jelly beans. That has always been such a wonderful way to keep the real meaning at the forefront.

We are not a religious family, but I believe in celebrating major religious holiday as part of cultural heritage. So this week it’s Easter and Passover combined. We read the second book, and I also appreciated that it doesn’t get into too many details. Very cute tissue box rabbit!
