We decided to go to a wonderful ice cream spot in our town on the 4th of July. It used to be small train station along railroad tracks. Now it is small ice cream spot along the railroad tracks. They serve soft serve chocolate or vanilla ice cream with a wide array of topping for a very reasonable price.
While he waited in line JDaniel watched for a train. They don’t come by often in the evening. We usually hear them in the middle of the night.
He really wanted to play in the large puddle behind him, but I persuaded him that his feet would get drenched and he listened to my advice!
You can get your ice cream in a cup or a cone. JDaniel really wanted a cone. Due to the fact that ice cream can fall off a cone and become unable to be eaten unless it is is licked off the ground. (Which we won’t allow him to do) He conceded to having a cone inย a cup.
Once he sat down he pulled the cone out and set it to the side. He never touched it again. I guess he just likes the idea of a cone.
The ice cream was yummy, but JDaniel hardly made a dent in his. He is usually the first one finished.
Why?
He was distracted by the discussion he decided we needed to have on fireworks. JDaniel knew we would be watching some later in the evening. He wanted to know everything we knew about how they worked and what they are made of.

So sweet, yep I’d LET him have both to if that’s what it takes to put a smile on his face, he is so adorable and the ice cream don’t look bad either.
What a refreshing post!..I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, teehehehe.

WE gave our twin grandchildren a “Tickle Me Elmo” but all one wants to do is rock him, and the other tries to keep him from moving around!! They’re going to break that toy for sure!!! Oh, well!

He is so cute! They are so fun at that age wanting to know how everything works ๐
CM says
Cute. I bet he had a good time!
Paula @ Simply Sandwich says
So sweet! Lucky you opted for the cup since he was distracted with the fireworks topic. “In the cone” would have been a different puddle in no time! ๐ Glad to see you had a nice holiday!

Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday! Cute post, who knows what goes through a childs mind, he wants the cone but not to eat, adorable! How cute is that ice-cream shop btw? My kids are loving learning all things about their baby brother…he fascinates them!! Have an awesome day ๐

How fun! What a great spot. My 4 year old is very into planets and space in general right now. My 2 year old is into anything his big brother is into. ๐

Jumping over from Jenna’s! Our little girl can be the same way about things – she will get so excited about suckers and then take a lick or two and just be done with it. Hilarious!!

Thanks for commenting on my post about our crazy amounts of pantries! It has been so helpful to keep us organized. I love this little ice cream spot. It looks so cute!

Now see, this is where we differ. I WOULD HAVE EATEN my child’s ice cream. Sigh! :-O
My daughter is into soaking up any information she can grasp. She is like a sponge at 5 (almost 6). She will start Kindergarten this fall and is really interested in reading. :o)

My grandson is slightly younger than JDaniel but he was also fascinated by the fireworks display he saw this year for the first time! At their age everything is interesting ๐
Chasing Joy says
Sounds like a smart little boy who clearly has his priorities straight. Fireworks that happen once a year are definately more important than icecream that could happen all the time if mommy allowed it. ๐
Vicki aka Jake says
I’m with JDaniel…give me a cone! Then I can take it out of the cup and eat it too:) What a little cuteie. My kids are grown but my 11 year old grand daughter is curious about boys already! Her parents are holding their breath. Grandma is snickering :):)
stef says
Perfect! It’s like eating a cone with a spoon instead of your tongue. I’m totally impressed that he could restrain himself from the puddle. My boys would have been all over it!
Losing Brownies says
I like the idea of a cone too!
Jessica says
Cone in a cup is much easier to eat. Fireworks are important to discuss. Hope he enjoyed seeing them.

Ice cream is good, no matter how it’s served…but that comes from an old lady. ๐
My kids are grown. My four year old nephew is interested in how car engines are built and any small detail concerning a motor vehicle of any kind. He’s a midget 85 year old and it’s hilarious.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Isn’t it funny what kids find interesting? Mine doesn’t really ask questions yet, but she will examine the smallest little thing for the longest amount of time. I love how curious they are.

So cute! I was the kid who preferred the cup because I didn’t like my hands to get sticky.

What a fun Ice cream joint. ;o) My lil’ guy “says” he likes ice cream, but the truth be told….he will hardly put a spoon of it to his mouth. Too cold. Haha! Your lil’ guy is so cute! Hope you had a great Independence day!!!

My kids always want a huge ice cream cone and never finish it. Ha! My 6 y/o loves history. He likes touring old houses. I love it!

Children LOVE conversation, don’t they.
They love that lock on lock eye contact, the directness that tells them, “I exist.”

I’m stopping by from Jenna’s Journey! I live in Columbia but my mom is in Simpsonville, we’re HUGE ice cream people… and somehow we’ve never been to this stand! I’m headed to S’ville this weekend, I’m definitely stopping by!

Now that’s the best of both worlds in my opinion. I love my ice cream in a cup. You could start a new trend and call it the upside down safe cone!

Mmmm. The ice cream sounds yummy. How interesting that JDaniel was far more fascinated by the fireworks discussion.

Taking ice cream home as a doggy bag ? lol !

My youngest (almost 8) got a big cone in the mountains a couple of months ago and knocked the whole scoop off in the floor before I had even paid for it! Luckily they happily gave him a new one and didn’t charge us for the one on the floor.

I just sent my husband out for some ice cream, (he says THANKS A LOT LADY) so I have time to comment on how nice it was of you to let him have both and discover on his own that he really was happy with the cup! I am curious as to what the fireworks questions were!

Stopping by from Jenna’s blog! What better treat than ice cream on the 4th of July?! Yum ๐
Savvy Practicality says
Looks like you two had a great time! 4th of July we had our own ice cream adventures. We ordered enough for everyone that was coming to the show, and half of them didn’t show up. We each had to eat more than our fair share of ice cream, and I am not sure I want to see any for a while.

Visiting here for the first time ๐
Your photo reminded me of the ice-cream shop near our house-swap home outside Boston.
Here in Ireland we call them tubs not cups!
I have a 6 year old who loves anything to do with bugs or dinasours – but it wouldn’t stop him eating his icecream!

I found your blog through the commenting challenge. I have to say, I am impressed! I don’t feel near organized enough to have as much learning stuff incorporated throughout our day. Ofcourse, Brayden is only 2, so it’s a bit hard to sit still for longer than 5 minutes anyways ๐ ha!

sweet treat, what a L take.
bless your weekend.

Wow, JDaniel is growing up so much! I love how he was so involved with the fireworks discussion that he forgot about his ice cream! He’s such a smart little boy ๐ As for E, these days she’s all about singing and learning the words to her songs and making up ones for things she likes. To learn the words, she would play a song over and over again and have me sing it to her until she knew how to pronounce the words. It’s so amazing…though it makes my throat dry ๐

Love the way you take an outing and turn it into a lesson? You are such a good Mom…I wish I had about a billionth of your patience.
Cones and little kids can be such a dangerous situation.
Actually cones and me. My car almost magnetically is pulled toward a DQ when I see one!
Thanks for the smile!
