When the sun had finally risen and we were both dressed in warm layers, we headed outside. I had some snow activities that I wanted us to try and JDaniel had activities he wanted to do too.
Painting words is a lot of fun! |
Next, we headed to the side of our yard to start rolling snowballs into the three sections of a snowman. (This is one of my favorite snow day activities.) The snow was super sticky so our small snowballs quickly became rounds big enough to use for a snowman. We rolled and smoothed the rough sections and repeated the process until they were just right.
Giving the snowman a face by painting was really fun! |
JDaniel tried drawing a face and buttons on the snowman with the dye with water paint. It made him kind of look a little gruesome. We ended up covering up the painted areas with fresh snow and redoing his face. I had brought out some lids and a carrot. JDaniel scrounged up some sticks. We used the lids for eyes and the carrot for his nose. JDaniel used the stick to give the snowman antlers and arms. I am not sure why he needed antlers, but they sure ended up being cute.
Our final activity was a snowball fight. The snow was really ideal for making snowball as I mentioned earlier. The only draw back was they solidified pretty quickly. That made them a little hard on the human targets they were thrown at. We had fun dodging them though.
Have you had snow recently?

We have a giant storm coming tomorrow, in fact. Just to dump on the two feet we already have! No sign of thawing either.
I love the idea of using food coloring in the snow.

You sure know how to create fun and learning! Bravo!

Love the idea of using the food coloring especially for the little ones. Thanks for the lovely share.

As much as I am a huge wimp when it comes to cold weather…I totally agree with JDaniel regarding how BEAUTIFUL it all is! We got some snow and also an ice storm, so every thing was like crystal and spun glass, especially all the trees. (I was and still am in awe at how incredible it all was/is…and took lots of photos! And as beautiful as some of the photos are, nothing can compare to the beauty in real life!)
Also, thank you so much for stopping by!
:o) Our son and his wife, use their mason jars for drinking glasses too… I love the POM glasses that they used to be sold in, before they went to plastic!
Blessings & Aloha!

Too much snow! More coming tomorrow but not enough to stay home from work.
Too icy here now to make any snowman. Glad you had fun though. Love from SITS.

I liked the way he took artistic liberty with those antlers. They were the perfect touch.

That looks so fun. We got a TON of snow last night. Well over a foot.

JDaniel made a great snowman! Just his size, even! And, of course, snowmen need antlers….

we are pretty over the snow up here in Minnesota…but it’s fun to see how much others enjoy it when it’s not a common thing! Stopping by from #sitsblogging

JDaniel is so lucky to have you for his mom!

We’ve had snow weekly since before Christmas. What we have not done yet, is a snowman!!! 🙂
Yours looks great..and hurrah for snowball fights (when they’re little, it gets trickier when they’re grown, and I can never win anymore). 😉

looks like you both had a ball – pretty cute snowman btw

Wow! I wish we could be someplace where we could see snow fall 🙂 We had some autumn rain in the morning – just 2 minutes, but Aarya really wanted to take his umbrella to school, in case it rained. Sadly it did not 🙂

Here in the part of Canada where I live, the snow hasn’t stopped. Every time we think the sun will melt it and give us sidewalks again, another dumping comes along.
Lovely snow day activities though! Wish I had small ones still.

What a lot of fun you two must have had! There’s nothing like kids and snow – fun follows!
Keitha says
Sounds like you two took full advantage of the lovely snowfall. Love the picture of your snowman without a gruesome face.

So cute — how fun to paint the snowman! #SITSBlogging

We need snow and rain out west, and envy your weather, however miserable. It never ceases to amaze me how kids (and dogs) are drawn to the white stuff. Snowmen, snow angels, snowball fights, sledding – it’s all good! Love from SITS

We also had perfect snowball snow! Fun to paint in the snow, I hadn’t thought to try that with my kids! #SITSBlogging

It snowed twice this week, on top of the snow we got last week. It’s been quite the winter, but my kids love to play in the snow. Using food coloring to paint in the snow is a great idea. My kids will love it.

I really wish we had some snow to play in too

I love the idea of using food color to paint in the snow. We have gotten so much snow this winter (it is snowing as I am typing this), and this would be so much fun to do once it stops. Thanks for the creative idea! #SITSBlogging
