This marble-painted zebra is made up of several projects for kids. They get to marble paint, work on cutting skills, and create a really cute zebra craft. We had a great time doing all of the steps it took to create this marble-painted zebra.
Let me walk you through the projects for kids that we did:
Marble Painting
We started with the marble painting. A blob of black paint was placed on a piece of white paper that had been placed in a roasting pan. (If you don’t want a blob on your paper, you can always place the paint in one of the corners of the pan.) I knew we would be using the blob as the zebra’s nose so, having the blob on the paper wasn’t a problem for us.
JDaniel tipped the pan back and forth at different angles to get black paint all over the paper to start with. Then he put the pan down on the driveway and pushed the pan back and forth.
Zebra Creation
When the paint had dried, we cut out a peanut shape, a slanted trapezoid shape, and two rectangles from the paper. The trapezoid was glued down first on a piece of brown paper bag paper. (I cut out the side of a brown paper bag to get the paper to use for the background of this craft.) Then the peanut shape was glued at the top of the trapezoid. It would become the zebra’s head. The triangles were tucked behind the head shape. They became the zebra’s ears.
Then we cut thin black strips of construction paper. The paper painting gave us the beginning of a zebra look, but we wanted him to have clear stripes too. We created black construction paper strips. The strips were glued to the zebra’s ears, head, and neck. (Black strips don’t need to be added, but I think you will agree that they were a good addition.)
Next black paper was cut out to create the zebra’s mane. Cutting out the fringe was really great cutting practice. We could cut only so far without ending up with lots of little bits of black paper.
Finally, wiggly eyes were glued onto the zebra’s head.

It turned out cute! Things like this are fun because the kids get excited waiting for the paint to try and then it’s fun all over again!
