Minions are very popular at my house. My son was even dressed up as Minion one year for Halloween and he took prinable Minion Valentine’s Day Cards I made to school last year. I decided it would be fun to create him a Minion puzzle with craft sticks. After seeing how easy it is to make, I am hoping he will make craft stick puzzles of his own.
How to Make a Craft Sticks Puzzle

The first step is to cut out a piece of Con-Tact paper that is just a little bit bigger than the size you think your puzzle will be. Then you will take off its paper backing and place the contact paper sticky side up on a table.
Next, you will arrange the craft sticks on the contact paper in the order you want them to be arranged in the puzzle. If you are using colored sticks, you will need to think over just how you want your puzzle to look. If you are using beige craft sticks, you can just place them on the contact paper. You could arrange your sticks on the table and put tape across them to hold them in place. I heard some people suggested doing that. Contact paper worked out so well for me. I could easily rearrange the sticks on it or remove a stick to touch up its coloring when it was on contact paper
Then you will start drawing your puzzle picture on the collection of sticks. I used magic markers to draw the Minion, his glasses, and the symbol on his overalls, and white paint for his eyeball. You and your children may want to use a combination of markers, crayons, and paint on your puzzles. You could also easily just pick one drawing tool to work with.
If you used paint or magic marker to create your puzzle illustration, you will want to wait for them to dry before doing the next step. If you used crayons, you are ready for the next step.
What is the next step? You need to peel the craft sticks off of the contact paper.
Now you are ready to have someone try to put your puzzle together. The Minion puzzle was challenging for my son and his friend to do. There were so many blue and yellow sticks that had similar lines on them. One way I could have made it easier would have been to put numbers on the back of each stick. The stick on the top of the puzzle would have been numbered one and the last stick would have had a sixteen on it. They could have turned over the sticks to figure out what order they needed to go in.
I am participating in a fun series this week with awesomely talented bloggers called Craft Closet Boredom Busters. Each day I will be sharing a fun activity you can do with your children along with links to the other blogger’s ideas!
If your children create a craft stick puzzle, please share a picture of it with me on Facebook.
