This free set of Goldilocks and the Three Bears Pattern Strips features characters and objects for the story. The set features colored strips rather than black and white. They will be great in a math center to review simple patterns. It would be great fun to use colored bear counters to copy the patterns on the cards. More information on different types of counting bears is listed below.
Getting the Goldilocks and the Three Bears Patterning Strips
First you will need to down load the PDF set.
Next, you will need to open the set. It should appear in your Download folder as an Acrobat Reader file.
Finally, it will be important to decide which of the pattern strip pages you want to print out.
If you really don’t want to print the strips out in color, you could print then out in grayscale or black and white. Some of the details may be harder to see in grayscale or black and white.
Making the Pattern Strips Reusable
Printing in color can get expensive. Taking the time to cover and laminate items will help them last. Below you will find the laminating materails I recommend.

How to Explore the Goldilocks and the Three Bears Pattern Strips
Sometimes children don’t notice a pattern right away. It would be helpful to discuss the pattern that appears on each strip first. Once your children have gone over the patterns on each card you want them to work on, they can work on their own.
Some children may not need to have the patterns explained to them. They may be able to identify the patterns and replicate them on their own. It will still be important to check on their work. Reassuring them that they have done it well or need to double check their work is really important. If you can’t be with them when they work on the strips, maybe they could work with a partner.
