Fun spring crafts brighten your kitchen, classroom, or anywhere else you care to hang them. Cupcake liner flowers like the ones in this spring craft that use brightly colored liners that do just that. The stores around here are filled with holiday themed cupcake liners along with brightly colored ones. This craft could be used to create flower bouquets for a specific holiday or to celebrate the colors of spring.
With this activity you don’t waste any cupcake liners. The flowers are simply created by folding individual cupcake liners in half and cutting out their centers. If you want a more fluted edge to the center of your flowers, you just cut out the center a little bit larger than the smooth center area. We tried to cut out just the smooth area out of the center of ours.
The outside area of the cupcake liner really wants to be stand up rather than lie flat on the paper. This is what we did to get them to lie flat.
- We found that if you put the glue from a glue stick all over the back off the cup liner rather than glue from a bottle that we had more time to lay the cupcake liner out on the paper for this fun craft.
- We pushed down the top of the liner on the paper first.
- Then we smoothed down the edges from top to bottom on both sides of the cupcake liner. Sometimes that makes the cupcake liner more oval then round and that is okay.
- Once the liner was completely pressed down, we smoothed out any crinkles that had formed.
- With all the flowers in place, we then needed to place the center inside the liners on the paper.
We had fun trying to decide what centers went with what petals (outside edges). There really wasn’t a wrong way to add them in.
When the entire flower had been created, simple narrow stems were cut out of pale green paper. When we tried to give each flower a stem, the stems ended up having to be folded and twisted. They really looked odd. We ended up cutting a couple of short pieces of paper to stick out from the bottom of the top flowers. Giving those flowers the illusion of having long stems coming out of their blooms rather and twisted stems.
A simple vase was cut out of a folded piece of paper and glued over the stems. We could have added a simple bow instead and I think that would have looked great too.
