Five Reasons I Loved Hosting Playgroup at My House Yesterday
1.It forced me to really clean my house.
2.I decluttered my house over the weekend so that it didn’t look so dishelved.
3.I tried the two Swanson’s chicken recipes I talked about in the Super Bowl-Swanson’s Chicken Giveaway. They were awesome!
4.JDaniel got practice in sharing his toys. He needs more practice.
5.I didn’t have to risk JDaniel falling asleep on the ride home from playgroup. We were already home.
Can the Early Bird Catch the Worm if the Worm is Asleep?
I truly believe that the early bird can only catch the worm if the worm is awake. This morning JDaniel woke up at 5:00 a.m. Through the baby monitor I heard, “Eat! Eat! Mommy! Mommy!” being said in a little sleepy voice. He has been sleeping until at least 6:00 a.m. and sometimes later. I am not sure what the difference is. Maybe it is because we didn’t march around the house last night or dance to 80’s music before bath time. I have got to figure this out. The worm is really not awake enough this morning to get the early bird out of bed at 5:00 a.m. There was another little word spoken at 5:30 a.m. “Pacie”. I think I am going to leave him in bed until 6:00 a.m. and then begin his day.
I hope all your little birds are sleeping in today!
My Daddy’s Things and Tasks According to JDaniel
Mommy is still very important to JDaniel. He still wants to know where I am and what I am doing all day. When he wakes up in the morning, it is mommy that is calls for.(Part of that is due to the fact that mommy is the only one that gets him out of bed in the morning. I am a morning person and my husband is really not.)
Lately there has been a daddy shift. He runs to the door to see “Daddy”! He insists we get daddy before we start building or playing. He has let me know that some things are just daddy things. The stories before bedtime have become Daddy’s. If I try and start the reading, I am informed by a little voice, “Daddy reads.” It is not just things daddy does. It is also my daddy’s shoes that I am told about. There is also daddy’s chair and daddy’s glass. (JDaniel loves to slip to the table and get any green tea left in daddy’s glass.) The list goes on. It seemed like the house was filled with daddy’s things.
Thankfully last week I finally was driving mommy’s car, reading mommy’s book, and wore mommy’s shoes. It is nice to be included as the owner of a few things.
It’s freezing and JDaniel says, “Hot! Hot! Hot!”
I am looking forward to it getting warmer!

My New Year’s Baby!
JDaniel has decided it is time to have a baby in the house. No, I am not going to have another little one. This baby is a stuffed dog. A few months ago I jokingly put his favorite stuffed animal Eckel in a swim diaper. After I took it off ,JDaniel would go and get diapers for Eckel a few times a week. I would explain that Eckel didn’t need a diaper, Mommy was just being silly and put the diaper back in the bathroom. Well, JDaniel finally got Eckel into a swim diaper last week. He doesn’t want it taken off either. Eckel needs it.
The next thing JDaniel decided Eckel had to have was a baby blanket. I was packing up the last of the baby blankets to get ready to consign them. They were quickly absconded and taken to a different part of the room. JDaniel ended up creating a nest to sit in with the baby blankets. Later he carried one around and kept repeating, “Baby, baby, baby.” “No,” I told him, “We don’t have a baby in our house. We have a toddler.” “Eckel baby,” I was told as he handed Eckel the blanket. Now Eckel has to wear a diaper and carry a blanket around or be wrapped in it all the time.
I am hoping the Eckel will stop wearing diapers and will give up the blanket soon. Until then I have a new baby in the house.
Bumpy Start to Christmas with a Great Ending
It really looked like it was going to be rough Christmas. My dad called to say that he had driven down from Virginia, but was spending the night before Christmas in a hotel. He had been sick all day and was worried he would keep up us. I wondered on Christmas Day would he still be sick. (I said a prayer for his health.) My husband was a little late in going to pick up my mom for Christmas dinner because one of the toilets was plugged up. (I prayed the plumbing won’t back up again.)I called my mom to tell her we were a little behind in coming together and she told me she was exhausted due to not sleeping all night. (I prayed she would enjoy her time with us.)When she got here I let the kitchen towel my mom had used to cover her corn casserole get to close to a burner and it got burnt. Thankfully the exhaust fan was already on and no one smelled the smoke. I was able to put out the small flame by running it under water. (I prayed I won’t burn anything else.)
Christmas lunch was supposed to be at 11:30. It had to be moved to 12:00. By then everything was on the table and ready to go. My family was in good spirits. Everyone got seconds of the things they liked best. It was a great ending to an interesting morning.
Holiday House Decorating- Pressure and Envy
JDaniel and I went shopping for some Christmas decorations for the outside of our house yesterday. I was really feeling the need to keep up with the other people with in the neighborhood. Really not to keep up with them just to do something more than we did last year. We usually hang a wreath on the door, put lights on one tree, and place ribbons on our railing. It looks nice. With the expectation of the house next store that has a lot of lights the other five around us have wreaths with red bows on all the lower windows, garlands under windows, and some lights. It is all tastefully done. With the bad weather , lateness my husband gets home, and my inability to climb a ladder to decorate with a toddler our house doesn’t even have up what we had last year. The plan is to work on it this weekend so; JDaniel and I got four wreaths with ribbons yesterday at A.C. Moore. They were a great deal. All four wreaths were $21. Now I just have to hope the weather stays nice!
Do you have the only undecorated house on your block? Do you deal with house envy?
Teething at Turkey Time
JDaniel must be cutting some pretty tough teeth. He has been waking up at all hours of the night and napping only one hour in the afternoon. We are all sleep deprived.
I am hoping the tryptophan in the turkey will do the trick for everybody.
