After reading through my friend Sarah’s new Ultimate Slime Book, I have been dying to make slime for JDaniel. You know I love to tie together books and learning activities. This fun slime activity features Sarah’s basic slime recipe and the book Duck in the Truck. It invites your children to use chopsticks to remove all the items that are stuck in the muck or homemade slime.
Making Sarah’s Slime
We made half a batch of the slime for our fine motor activity.
You will need to mix together the following:
- 1/2 cup of Liquid Starch
- 1/2 of White School Glue
- 1/4 of Water
- Neon Blue Food Coloring (You could use brown to make the slime look muddy. We just like the neon blue color.)
Mix all the ingredients together.
Gathering the Fine Motor Activity Supplies
You will need farm animals like those found in the Safari Ltd Farm TOOB, a plastic frog, and a red truck. We didn’t have a frog or a red truck. The ones we used were cut out of a green and red plastic folder. (I really try to use items we have on hand a home for our projects.)
You will also need a plastic or styrofoam bowl and some chopsticks. You could use a larger container for this activity if you like. We used a small container so we wouldn’t have to chase the animals and the truck around it with the chopsticks.
Exploring the Fine Motor Activity
Your children will need to pick one of the objects out of the container at a time with the chopsticks. They will need to hold the chopsticks together with a pincer grasp. This is the same grasp they use when they are writing with a pencil.
