JDaniel is so into John Deere right now. It could be because his Cousin Charlie’s room is decorated in John Deere pictures. While we were up visiting my sister Kate’s family in the country outside of Syracuse, NY we saw a lot of orange signs. The only one that really stood out to JDaniel was the John Deere signs. I know they are supposed to be a deer crossing signs. According to JDaniel it is a John Deere sign. I am not sure if that means John Deere tractors across there or all things John Deere can cross at the sign. I think it is funny that he made that association.
The second reason we went to New York was to attend a cousin’s wedding right on Seneca Lake. It was a beautiful time for the bride and groom to share their love for each other. The food was amazing. Seeing relatives was great. What will JDaniel remember? He remembers the piñata my Aunt Sue set up and getting to throw rocks in the lake. If he had his way, he would have thrown rocks the whole time we were there. It was one way my sisters Kate and Michelle could convince him to leave mommy’s side. Each enticed him to go with them because they would take him to the rocks. While his cousins skipped rocks on the lake, JDaniel dumped, threw, and hurled them.
The wedding was almost two hours away from my sister’s house. By the time I decided it was time to leave it was getting dark. My sister Kate lent me her GPS to get back to her house. She and her family would be heading back later in the evening and were familiar with the roads. JDaniel loved echoing the GPS. The GPS would say, “Turn left in four miles.” JDaniel would say, “Turn left” for four miles. He did this over and over again. I tried singing to him and chatting with him. He decided he would rather chat with the GPS. Thank goodness this new game lost interest eventually. We discovered while driving home that GPS does a great job most of the time. Sometimes it causes you to drive in a circle or a square. I was pretty sure at one point I needed to go straight. The GPS said to take a left. I followed the GPS. It said to take another left and then another. Yes, you are right it put me back on the same road I thought I needed to go straight on. As we made the final left, I saw a deer on the left-hand side of the road. (A real deer not a John Deere) It looked like he was shaking his head at me. If he could have talked to me I bet he would have said, “I bet a GPS sent you this way. It is happening on this road more and more all the time.”
It sounds like you had a lovely visit. Congratulations to the Bride and Groom and the Deer for not crossing in front of your GPS assisted drive.
The other day, as I made a kind of quick left turn onto our street, my two year old said, “Nice turn, mommy.” Oh, kids, they are so great! Thanks for the visit at my site!
My boys do that with the GPS, too. It sort of drives me nuts.
Too funny!
Sounds like you had a great time. I love that Jdaniel wanted to “chat with the GPS”! I have had them run me in circles. I eventually get where I need to be, but it can be interesting to say the least!
My youngest loves the GPS also – she has figured out how to mess with it and it entertains her for a whole trip. However, sometimes when our Australian friend gets crabby and continues to say “recalculating, recalculating” I want to toss it out the window!
Great post!
I know we have had the happen to…I hope you made it in time…cute but probably not so fun experience…bkm
hehehe, funny!!
bwah ha ha … very, very funny! And I am certain deer have lots of things to tell us!
cute post! Happy Alphabe-Thurs!
coming from alphabet…
im so bad with directions that i wouldnt hav realized that i was back on the same road!
Too cute to have a GPS parrot in your car 🙂
Terrific post as always!
XOXO LOLA:)
PS thanks for visiting.
lovely post.
My boys used to LOVE throwing rocks at a body of water…just about more than anything.
And I agree that the GPS does not always take the most direct route. I also find it funny that your boy made friends and had a conversation with it.
=)
We have a GPS and sometimes it does seem to take you places in a roundabout way. I guess JDaniel’s going to grow up and want a John Deere one day. Uh oh, that could get expensive lol.
Cute story! I can see my grandson doing the same and talking to the GPS 🙂 he also like John Deere and now Thomas the Tank train is becoming a favorite.
LOL! I love your boy! We had fun with our new GPS to and from the beach. However I tired quickly of the British girl trying to speak “Southern” on our new Garmin.
Verrrrrry funny, I loved the John Deere signs and your description of the modes used to deposit rocks in water. Cute!
I enjoy trying to different accents on the GPS too. It keeps me entertained too.
I can see where he thought the sign meant John Deere. Kids say the funniest things. I wish I had written down all the funny things my kids said and I thought I’d remember.
LOL, I am glad to hear that I am not the only one GPS has done that too. I told my husband it was possible to get lost with GPS LOL. I love that the little man thought the sign was a John Deere sign, that is too funny!
lol, i hear ya on going in circles… that is the ONLY problem… I have mine set on a british accent! lol
The Great Dane and I have ‘discussions’ about the GPS all the time. I stick with a good old map and he insists that the GPS won’t lead us astray. Guess when we get lost the most!
I love the ‘John Deere’ sign!
When we moved from VA to CA we drove in two cars. My husband had our daughters and the GPS. He said they would copy it and say all things silly. And more than once it would take us off the freeway and out us right back on it! They are mostly good though.
Isn’t it funny what children remember and associate with things!
I love his John Deere association but think I’d go nuts listening to him mimic Gabbie. My husband’s is always muted. At least when I’m in there with him!
I simply loved your last sentence! Priceless.
Neat! I live in Liverpool which is just 5 mins from Syracuse. My mom lives on Seneca Lake in wine country. It’s so beautiful there. Lucky for us we get to see her once a week because she still works up here. The deer crossing signs are quite plentiful up here. lol. Funny GPS story. My kids like the GPS as well. Hope you can follow me back. I’m here visiting from Comment Friday at the Blog Frog!

I love the whole John Deere bit … and then seeing the deer, very cool!
He sounds like a typical and wonderful little boy……….
What a fun and happy link to Alphabe-Thursday’s Rainbow Summer School.
I really enjoyed your stories and JDaniel…oh just adorable!
Thanks for sharing your fun with us this week.
I really enjoyed this stop.
