- Tammi Salzano has created the cutest book for learning and working with colors called
One Rainy Day.
- Little Duck has a wonderful time with his red boots and orange umbrella playing in the silver shimmering raindrops. He encounters a green frog, blue puddles, pink worms, black bugs, brown mud, white boats, and yellow flowers while out enjoying the rain. Thank goodness his mom has a purple towel waiting for him at home.He is probably really wet.

- The pictures in the wonderful board book are soft and fuzzy. The creatures are smiling and happy. While this book is probably for children younger than three, JDaniel was delighted to read this book with me over and over again.
What did we do?
Color Matching One
We took a leftover lick and stick color stripes from a Sunday school lesson I taught a few months ago and cut them into small squares that would fit on the bottom of little rubber ducks.
JDaniel helped me lick the squares and place them on the ducks. Two ducks each received the same color. Then we tried to find the ducks with the matching color.
Color Matching Two
I took out an old egg carton and put different colors at the bottom of each egg cup. JDaniel then tried to match the color on each duck’s bottom to the color in each egg cup.

Spring is a wonderful time to talk about colors. At this time of year, colors just start appearing in the natural world. Sounds like the duck in the book found many different colors outside!

I am so excited to link up to your Read Explore and Learn Link Up. I use literature everyday in my preschool class as well as with my own children. I have a lot of fun creating learning opportunities centered around books. My link, Just Going to the Dentist, uses egg cartons as well. I love your colorful idea. I look forward to exploring more posts.
Thanks,
Shauna
