We have been working on mastering the potty for months. I decided it was time for some potty etiquette and checked Potty Animals by Hope Vestergarrd out of the library.
JDaniel will start preschool in a few weeks and needs to work on many of the skills Hope covers the book.
Potty Animals highlights a student that is struggling with a potty etiquette issue and need reminders to do the right thing.
The elephant needs to work on hand washing. The pig waits to long to go. The alligator forgets to lift the seat. The rabbit is afraid of the flush sound so he doesn’t flush. The duck daydreams on the potty while other people need to go. The badger barges in and the anteater forget to close the door. The hippo says she doesn’t need to go and the tiger goes outside. There is also a nap mat wetter and a horrible wiper. This school has it all.
The story is filled with fun rhymes and the cutest pictures by Valeria Petrome.
I hope JDaniel learns from their experiences and remember the etiquette tips it covers.
What did we do?
I decided JDaniel needed to become the prince of potty etiquette. If you are going to be the prince of potty etiquette you, you need a scepter and a crown.
Crown Making
We decorate a premade crown while visiting the The Children’s Museum of the Upstate. JDaniel inisted on wearing it home. True potty etiquette princes have to wear their crowns through the museum and into the car.
Scepter Making
JDaniel threaded ribbon through a paper towel roll and then colored it with crayons. Then as etiquette princes do he waved it.

We read this book too long after potty training, and Anna found it hilarious.

What a cute idea to make him king of potty etiquette!
And the book sounds great!

I love the crown! I think the girls would bonk each other with a scepter. Maurene is getting closer to potty training so I might use this. Thanks!

You are so creative! I would have never have thought of that! Buggy is only 14 months old, but I’m tucking this idea (and the book title) away in my hat for when we hit the oh-so-fun potty training stage!

Love the idea of the scepter! I never thought of it – my son is always wanting his sister’s magic wands, what a terrific idea!
And I need to find that book – I’m pretty sure it would be a hit here!

Potty Animals is one of those books I found after it was prime time for use with B, but it’s almost time to start thinking about a second round of potty training since T is getting interested, and this one is on my list!
Grumpy Grateful Mom says
I could use my own prince, as my guy will be starting preschool this month and is not quite potty ready! I’ll be getting this book for sure, definetly, and absolutetly. My girls could use some reminders too. 🙂

& yes, I was so happy to find that fabric with “under God” on it…I specifically chose the little squares to sew in, that were either from material I used to sew them when they were younger or fabric that related to special things/interests in their lives.

What a great book! Our issue is pulling down pants BEFORE he gets in the stall in public restrooms. I’m like, no, WAIT! Wait until you get inside the stall and shut the door. LOL. Little boys!
