We set the timer inside the house for ten minutes and waited to see if there would be a change. After ten minutes, there was just a little change. We headed back into the house and set the time for another ten minutes. When we check the eggs the second time with a finger test, the yolks were a little hard on the top.
JDaniel’s egg wasn’t hard enough to withstand the pressure that was placed on the egg during his finger pressure test. The yolk split open and oozed all over its egg white.
We headed off to the YMCA to walk on their indoor track shortly after the yolk incident. When we returned an hour later, the whites and yolks were hard and rubbery.
I guess it was hot enough outside to fry an egg!

It has been near 100 every day for a few days here… Definitely need to try this, although I’m not sure if my youngest will have the patience, and he will probably want to eat it. LOL.
Melissa says
Oh, I am SOOO trying this with my family this weekend. But, I’ll have to figure out a way to keep the dogs from eating the eggs! LOL.
Kim says
Oh I saw your post on FB. I’m sure here in TX I’d get a hard boiled one!!!
Trisha @ Inspiration Laboratories says
It’s so hot here, too! Maybe we’ll try this. 🙂

That’s a cool idea. My son would love it. I don’t think it would get quite hot enough where we live here in NH though.

That is pretty hot! It’s muggy here, but I don’t think it’s quite hot enough to fry an egg!
Esther Joy says
I have often wanted to try that, but never have. It has been REALLY hot here – breaking a lot of heat records. The highest I have seen in the past week has been 110* F.
Charlene says
We are going to have to try this one too. My husband gave the boys magnifying glasses and they have seeing what kind of mischief they can get into with them. So far, they have “fried” ants with them and burned holes into paper towels holders and tried melting little plastic army men LOL!
JDaniel4's Mom says
I can see JDaniel doing all of these things too.
Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
What a fun experiment! We’re getting about the same temps here too, and I’m enjoying watching it from INSIDE the window!
Joyce Lansky says
Next time you try this, put a metal pan on the sidewalk and let it heat in the sun. Then drop the egg in it. You’re still frying an egg on the sidewalk, but you won’t have the mess and might actually get to eat it.

Our temps haven’t been that hot. But if they do get so hot I think we will try this, using Joyce’s suggestion. The girls love doing experiments/observations. Thanks for sharing

I remember growing up in Arizona and trying this when I was little. I will have to try it with my oldest since I know he will get a kick of cracking an egg open on the sidewalk.
Sue says
When I was young, we lived in Palm Springs, CA. My dad fried an egg on the sidewalk once when it was about 120. It fried up pretty quickly.

Raising a Happy Child says
Wow, it’s crazy hot! Luckily, we are in Northern CA, and while it’s hot enough to melt crayons, it’s not hot enough for fried eggs.
Marla says
What a fabulous idea! My daughter would love that experiment – I think we will have to try it!
Keitha says
What a fun experiment! Have you seen the photo making the rounds on Pinterest of somone baking cookies inside their car? The picture shows two metal pans of cookies on the dashboard with the windows rolled up.

How fun! I’ve always wanted to try this. Whether it worked or not I think my kids would be excited just to crack eggs on the pavement. 😉
