Let’s Code Break Summer Riddles

This week I am sharing sets of code breaking or crack the code worksheets with you. Today’s crack the code set invites children to find the punch lines to summer themed jokes. You will notice that the crack the code pictures have a summer theme. Your children will have fun using them to find out the answers to each of the riddles.

Getting the Crack the Code Worksheets

You will need to download the Code Breaking- Summer Riddles Printable Worksheets for Childrenworksheet set. You will find a code breaking chart; two crack the code riddle worksheets, and the answer keys for the worksheets.

Then you can print out the pages that you want to use with your children.

Building Background before Starting the Activity

You may want to read your children a book or two with a summer theme. It will introduce your children to some of the vocabulary words that they will find in the riddles. Below you will find some of our favorite summer-themed books.

Exploring the Crack the Code Worksheets

You can put up one code breaking chart for all your children to use. If you prefer, you can give each of your children a code creaking chart of their own.

Then you can pass out one of the code breaking sheets. Your children can work on them on their own or with you. If you are using this activity to work on reading skills, you will want to work on it with them.

Finally, your children will need to read each of the riddles and its punchline. You may have to encourage them to add feeling to their reading. Riddles really don’t sound right read in a monotone.
