Songs that are about five little creatures or objects are such fun to sing. I have previous shared with you Five Little Firemen, Five Little Crows, and Five Little Apples just to name a few. This summer I searched a kids song about ocean life and came across Five Little Starfish. A fun kids song or chant becomes even more fun when kids can make a craft to go with it. Below I am going to share two versions of the song Five Little Starfish and a craft that was made to go along with them.
Two Versions of the Five Little Starfish Kids Song
Five Little Starfish with Colors Song
Five little starfish by the lie down by the shore,
The yellow starfish got lost and that left just four.
Four little starfish float in the sea,
The blue one swam too faraway and that left just three.
Three little starfish in the ocean blu,e
The red one went on a seahorse ride and that left just two.
Two little starfish bathe in the sun,
The orange one washed out to sea and that left just one.
One little starfish swimming without a friend.
It was time for him to go home and so our song had to end.

We created five little red felt starfish to go along with the second song. You could easily have your children create a yellow, red, blue, orange, and green starfish to go along with the first song. ( The first song doesn’t mention the color of the last starfish so, I made him green.)
A cookie cutter was used to trace five stars onto red felt. Then the stars were cut out. The felt we used wasn’t very thick so it was easy to cut out the star.
Then two wiggly eyes were glued onto each of the starfish. We used Elmer’s X-TREME Extra Strength Washable School Glue Stick, 0.88 Ounces, Single Stick (E584) glue the eyes on. It does a great job of holding the eyes in place.
Finally we used self-adhesive reinforcement labels to add circles to the starfish. Each of our starfish and some long arms and some short ones. If the arm was long it got two stickers and if it was short it got just one.
If you decide to make starfish to go along with one or both of these songs, please share a picture of them with me on Facebook.
