All About Me Worksheets That Explore Math Concepts

Last week I shared with you edible Back to School printables, this week I have a set of four All About Me worksheets that you could use during the Back to School season. Each of the four printables invites your children to work on math concepts while sharing facts about themselves. You could have your children work on all of All About Me Worksheets or just one of them.

Getting the All About Me Worksheets

You can download the All About Me Worksheets That Explore Math Concepts onto your computer. They are in a PDF format. Once you have downloaded them you can, decide which of the All About Me worksheets you want to use.

Exploring the All About Me Worksheets

Each of the All About Me worksheets explore different math concepts. Let me walk you through each of them.

Your children will need to know some facts about themselves to work on this worksheet. You can gather some of the numbers ahead of time for them if you don’t feel they will know them. The numbers they will need to fill in the blanks appear at the bottom of the page.

This All About Me worksheet invites children to write down words that relate to them and their school. Young children may need to have you place the words on a note card or the board for them to copy onto this worksheet. They will start by writing down the words or group of words. Then they can count how many letters are in each word or group of words.

Measurement is the focus of this All About Me worksheet. Your children can use one-inch block or cubes to measure various sections on their body. Then they can record on the worksheet how many one-inch blocks they used to measure each section.

This worksheet focuses on telling time to the minute. Your children may need help figuring the time that each of these events happens during the day. You could have them take it home to work on with their parents or you could help them at school.

Let’s Make a Homemade Balance Scale to Weigh Chickens

This is the first of five farm-themed STEM activities. Today’s activity invites your children to create a homemade balance scale using a plastic hanger and some supplies you probably have at home. Then they can use their homemade balance scale to weigh plastic chickens. You will find the directions for building the scale below. There is also a link to the printable building and recording printables your children will need for this activity.

Let’s Start with Making the Homemade Balance Scale

I will walk you through how to make the scale below. You will also find a set of directions on how to build the scale by clicking on the link in the activity section below.

Supplies Needed

Plastic Coat Hanger
Yarn
Plastic Applesauce Cups
Hole Punch

Making the Balance Scale

You will need to punch a hole on opposite sides of each of your applesauce cups with the hole punch.

Then you will need to cut on two pieces of yarn. They will need to be about 2 feet in length.

Next, you will need to thread one end of a piece of yarn through one of the holes in the applesauce cup. Then you will tie the end of the yarn to the yarn on the outside of the cup. Next, you will thread the other end of the yarn through the other hole. Finally, you will tie it in place.

Finally, you will need to hang the center of the yarn attached to each cup over the top of the hanger.

Weighing Chickens Activity

You will need to gather popcorn kernels, a plastic hen and a plastic rooster for this activity. You will also need to download the How to make a homemade balance scale

Then your children can make predictions as to how much they think the hen and rooster will weigh. They can record their predictions of the scale activity printable.

Next, they will weigh each of the chickens on their own and together. Children will then record how much they weighed on their own and together.

Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin for Kids

A Valentine’s Day sensory bin is a great time to explore and play with symbols of the holiday as well as fun red objects. I recently share the bin above with JDaniel and he had a great time exploring, learning with and, playing with its contents.

What did I put in it?

Valentine’s Day themed stencil
Heart shaped cookie cutters
Heart shaped doilies
Heart shaped sunglasses
Red funnels
Red and pink buttons
Ribbon
Heart shaped Straw
Heart shaped skewers
Red beans
Dice with hearts on them
Pink Spoon

While children just love to explore and create their own activities with sensory bins, I like to guide JDaniel just a little bit. After he had checked everything out and played with it for awhile, I suggested we try the activities below.

Sunglass Weaving

He simply wove a couple of strand of ribbon through the slats in the sunglasses. It was a great small motor skill and in took some concentration to do. He couldn’t see through them when he was done, but it was a fun activity.

Estimating Beans

How many beans did JDaniel think would fit into each cookie cutter? Did the same number of beans fill the large cookie cutter as they did the small one? In this case the large one did not get filled up by the same number of beans. It didn’t even fill one layer of beans.

Heart Skewer Shuffleboard

The heart shaped skewers made perfect shuffle board sticks. I had JDaniel test out whether the bean or the button made it farther when it was shuffled across the kitchen table. I think he added a little more force behind the that he wanted to win. He had picked the bean. Either way it was a fun activity.

Straw Blowing Activity

JDaniel also worked on blowing a button and a bean across the table with a straw. The skewers were much easier to use to get the bean and button moving. It took a lot of blowing to get the button across the table.

Funneling Buttons

Which buttons could be sent through the small funnel? Which ones went through the larger one? Really on the smallest buttons made it through the funnels. A few of the buttons got struck and we had to use the skewer to pop them back up through the top.

Slinky Measurements

JDaniel has the most fun with this plastic heart shaped slinky. He loved trying to get it to flop and and spring back up. I had him place it on the end of the sensory bin and count how many hearts across the bin was. That got him thinking about other things he could measure the length of. He ended up measuring chair, tables and even his bear. They were accurate measurements due to the fact that the slinky had to be stretched out to measure the length of some things, but it was great counting practice.

As I mentioned a sensory bin is mostly for exploring, but I did want to share with you six activities we did with the contents of this bin.
