The rising of the sun in the morning is usually followed by a loud cock-a-doodle-doo on a farm. The rooster announces with all his might that a new day has started. Your children will have fun discovering when the sun rises and sets where you live. When they have done that they will be reading to start this telling time from sunrise to sunset STEM activity.
Before starting this activity, you may want to read your children a book about roosters. Here are a few books that we really love.
Telling Time Activity
Deciding on the Printable or Worksheet
There are three different telling time layouts available. Let share with you what you will find on each of the printables.
The first is a simple layout that displays clocks for sunrise, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and sunset. You will find a color version and a black and white version of that layout.
The second layout has all of the activities displayed on the first clock. It also has two extra clocks with editable activity spots on the two new clocks. This version is available in color version and a black and white version.
Finally, you have a layout with editable activity spots under five of the clocks. You can type in any activities that your children do during the day. There are a color version and black and white version of this clock too.
Assembling the Clock Activity
You will need to print out a set of the Telling Time Printables – Sunrise to Sunset Clocks for each of your children. You can print them out a set of the black and white or colored in version of the telling time printables.
Then the sunrise to sunset, the long rectangle, and the sun circle will need to be cut out. You can cut them out for your children if you like.
The sun needs to be glued to one end of the rectangle. You will need to make sure it is glued to the very end of the rectangle.
Finally, the end of the rectangle without the sun on it will need to be attached to the back of the circle with a brass fastener.
Adding the Time to the Clocks
You will need to look up when the sun rises and sets in your area. We used timeanddate.com to find out when the sunrise and sunset were.
Your children will need to draw the hands to show the sunrise time on the clock labeled sunrise.
Then they can continue to draw the hands on the remaining clocks to display the time each of the activities takes place during the day.
